I
could miss Kusturica. I could miss Rage against the machine, I could even miss
KISS. But when I saw that Serj Tankian and Scars on Broadway were
performing in the same festival, in my country, during the summer holiday, I
knew that it was something I couldn't miss.
I took a night train with my father, and got to Paris around seven in the
morning, first day of the festival. We spent the morning walking in Paris, and
then went to the festival.
We were a bit late, so we arrived just when Apocalyptica was leaving the stage,
then we saw Hot chip (great!), and after them, it was Serj's concert!!!!!!! |

[29-08-2008] 2 days a week festival, Wiesen - Austria

First words; f* awesome!
I went there with a good friend of mine, their parents drove us. After 3-4h of
driving, asking random people for the direction Laughing and stopping by in Graz
to get the tickets, we finally got to Wiesen.
Around 8 o’clock, trading the tickets for hand bands, hiding the cameras in the
baggy pants and “decolte”s we finally got in. There we some shirt stands where I
bought a Serj shirt, which is unluckily a way too big so a hang it on the wall
at home later on.
We mixed with the crowd and suddenly find our self in a mosh-pit which helped us
to come pretty near the stage.
We just got in as they were preparing the stage for a band called “Gogol
Bordello”, some gypsy folk punk band. |

Having
almost entirely written, performed and produced Elect the Dead, has the
experience of going solo improved or changed you much as a musician?
"Absolutely, as a songwriter it presented a lot of interesting challenges and
as a musician I got to exercise my chops on guitar, piano, string arrangements,
bass, programming drums, producing and putting it out on my own label. It was
like an all round arts project that came together for me, like a composer’s way
of making a rock record." |

Serj Tankian: “We Haven’t Decided If the Future Contains System or Not”
|

Ten
months after releasing Elect the Dead, his solo debut, System of a Down frontman
Serj Tankian isn’t taking time to look back.
After settling into the role
of sole songwriter and the name on the marquee (”I guess people have to get used
to my funny name”), Tankian is finding he can’t stop. After a set on Ozzfest’s
main stage last weekend and staring a slate of impending European festivals in
the face, he’s looking to wind down the Elect the Dead cycle and push on not
only with another solo record, but a handful of other projects.
“I have five hundred recorded songs that are unreleased,” he said. “I’ve been
composing for a play with Steven Sater, who did Spring Awakening. |

Serj Tankian at ozzfest 2008 - the only one who went?

As
for the set, I don't remember the order except that he opened with 'Unthinking
Majority', and then went into 'Empty Walls' and 'Feed Us'. He did every song
from Elect The Dead except, 'Elect The Dead' and 'Money', as well as 'Holiday in
Cambodia'.
Serj (and Cavalera Conspiracy) are really the reason I was willing to dish out
150 dollars for pit tickets. The friend I went with was excited for Serj as
well, (not as much as Metallica though) and this was his first time seeing him. |

Serj Tankian might release Live DVD
|
 |
| Posted by ZAk on Sunday, June 29, 2008 - 10:10 AM |
Serj Tankian has been touring in support of his first solo album, 2007's
"Elect the Dead", and the highlights of his last eight months on the road may
soon be documented in a DVD.
Serj told The Pulse of Radio that the package could contain a lot of
previously unreleased material. "It's funny, 'cause the record's only 45 minutes
and we've headlined a lot of shows where we've played an hour fifteen, so that's
30 minutes of music," he said. "So there's covers, there's new songs, there's
unreleased stuff, so we have a lot of stuff that we can release on such a
vehicle like a DVD." |
