| Daron's pullin this now? He needs to gt his shit together.... I don't think he has any idea how much the music he makes means to people worldwide. I'd like to see System do something soon, but I doubt that'll happen in the near future... so, if Scars isn't doin anything I may as well turn my back on Daron like he's done with us... /rant Everyone'll get over it tho, lets just see what happens. |

I'm a long-time lurker but haven't felt compelled to post before. I also happen to have worked for a fairly major band (not SOAD related in any way!) for many years so consider myself reasonably qualified to comment on this kind of situation...
1) No band or artist, no matter how much of a fan you may be, *owe* you anything. You do not own them, they do not have to justify their every action to you. Sure, without the fans there is no band, but there is no obligation - you buy a record if you want to. You buy gig tickets if you want to. If the gig does not occur, you are refunded.
2) Like it or not, being in a band is someone's *job*. Sure, it's a job that folk have more passion for than working at Maccy D's, but it's still a job. Certain things in life require you to take time off work, and you don't always see these things coming. Most of us are fortunate in that deciding we can't go into work tomorrow just means someone has to cover our workload for a day or two. Not so easy if you're the main attraction.
3) Nobody takes cancelling a tour lightly. It is a Big Deal. It causes a lot of work for a lot of people and (as we're seeing) tends to generate loads of bad feeling. It is a seriously major decision to take, especially when touring a debut album.
4) Nobody is entitled to know about anyone else's private life. The reasoning behind the cancellation is actually none of your business, just as it's none of mine. To use the work analogy again, if I had to take a few months off then that is actually between me and my boss. My co-workers do not need to know why if I choose not to tell them. And those are people whom I've met, at least. You are fans, you are not the band's personal friends.
5) Extra expenses. Yup, it sucks if you'd booked flights or hotels or whatever to go to a gig. But that is life I'm afraid - any event can be cancelled, it's a risk you take. We've had gigs be cancelled cos of weather, cos of illness, cos of the gear not turning up in time - humans are fallible. 99% of the time, everything works out, but there's always that chance that it won't. Shit happens, as they say.
I'll no doubt be shot down in flames for at least half of my post, but I'm worried by the majority of the posts here - there's being a fan (enjoy the music, enjoy the gigs, maybe respect the artist) and there's being a Fan (omg they're my life, the band owe me, I demand access to their private lives). Frankly, I find the latter to be decidedly creepy.
Chill out, relax, take a walk outside and consider what *you* would do if 'some serious shit' was happening in YOUR life and you needed to deal with it. Really, think about that and be honest with yourself. |

| From now on, if anyone wants to comment on this thread, read the lengthy post above, probably the most summarized version of any rational person/fan's view of this situation. Nobody wants to hear anymore people moan about Daron so don't bother, it's fuckin boring and in my opinion really insensitive about another person's personal problems. Who cares how excited people were to see him, he'll come back sometime soon. |

Thank you, vernalequinox. For joining, for putting this all in perspective.

If that's the case, then what's the point of keeping the thread open? It's here so people can post their opinions on the matter, yes/no? PS thx for your glorious insight, captain. It sure provided content for the thread, something you apparently desire. |

hmm lets see. Tell me, what if you went to the doctors one day and told you you had cancer, how would u feel. What would u do? What if someone else in the family was diagnosed? What if a family member was lying in a hospital right now on their death bed? Would you go on with ur day like nuthing has even happened and just blow it off and have all smiles left and right.....This may be sumthing daron is going through right now, who knows. The fact of the matter is, he explained it perfectely fine that it had nuthing to do with music influencing his desision. IT HAS TO DO WITH A PERSONAL ISSUE, and obviously it doesnt look good whatever the problem is. seriosly, for you or anyone else who is still bitching at him about his desicion, im pretty sure you all will deal with sum sort of personal difficulty in your lifetime whether its with you or a family member, and how are you gonna handle it? seriously grow the fuck up u ppl still bitchin at him, that is very selfish and horrible of u. FAMILY COMES FIRST before any job or hobby period, if u cant understand that, then maybe u need sum help......... |

I agree 100% with vernalequinox.
Sure it's sad if a show you've been looking forward to gets canceled, but show some sympathy and try to understand, jeez. |
