here, we were given this quote by John Hersesy, a novelist apparently, "Learning starts with failure, the first failure is the beginning of education". We were told to analyze this quote and give our thoughts on it ,proving that it makes sense, or that it's total bullshit 
also, this is where I presented my personal theory, which I call " The Void Theory "
here goes:
The novelist John Hersey once said, "Learning starts with failure, the first failure is the beginning of education". In other words, the cause that prompts someone to learn or be educated is failure, and the very first failure is what sparks the seeking of knowledge and education. There are many insightful truths to be explored in this saying and a confusing concept to be clarified.
What is failure? Failure is usually seen as the act of being unsuccessful in a certain action or exploit. It can also be a success which yields few results or rewards. To me, failure is the lacking of something: lacking of skill, lacking of intelligence, lacking of abilities. When one lacks something, he or she is failing at that thing. A person that cannot dance lacks dance skills and is failing, and will keep failing at dancing unless he or she fills the void of skill, where he or she then can dance.
In this case, "learning starts with a failure" simply means, a lack of knowledge and information (failing) is what signals the learning process to initiate. Humans are intelligent creatures. They seek knowledge and answers to life's mysteries. Human societies are built upon knowledge and the acquisition and spreading of information. Thus, for a child to grow up and intermingle with this society, he or she must know, they must be educated, and to fill a space with something, it must be empty, and this empty mind, the failing mind, will systematically be filled with all the necessary information and knowledge needed for living life.
I will now give some examples on this theory of failure and education. I have already given one example supporting the failure as emptiness theory such as the person who can't dance, and also how education needs emptiness so it can replace it. A real life example would be: A baby does not know much. They are still discovering their world and rely on basic instincts and "trial and error". It is this emptiness, this failure, which is the cause for education to be introduced, thus, failure leads to the start of education.
In conclusion, failure is the lack of something, which must be filled to stop the failure from occurring. So, education is because of a failure, proving that failure is necessary for education to occur. Though there is nothing wrong with failure, because humans are imperfect beings, thus complete success is impossible, and failure is expected of humans, it makes them human, yet also, it brings them one step closer to conquering their environment and being the immortal masters of their own world by developing, one failure at a time.
