This happened recently with a kid who was in the UK and apparently got involved with some extremist types, and they were said to have pretended to be this girl on the internet (whom he considered his girlfriend), got him to convert to Islam and then attempt to blow himself up in the toilets of a restaurant.

I guess they can target the most impressionable people out there, whether they'll fall for some girl liking them, or whether it's theses virgins hanging out in heaven waiting for them.

The number 72 actually appears quite often in Islam.

I have strong background and knowledge about islam, and never encounterd the number 72, neither in teachings or in quran .. and that 72 virgin thing doesnt exist at all, whoever did invent this was apparently making fun of the fools bombing themselves or something

I just noticed there was mentioned Afghanistan in that article . I guess they put it wrong .
later news said , they have been in a camp in Pakistan - which is more probable.

ah it makes more sense now, although its weird that the first police statement said it was Afghanistan.. i hope its not a whole random islamphobic suspect thing

SO, they were not planning to bomb the plane afterall? they were only heading to Turkey to bomb there.. how ironic , turkey is a muslim majority country

these extreme people (whatever their religion or believe or nationality) are pathetic

I wouldn't call them pathetic, just easily swayed and impressionable. But the worst thing is, once they belong to something 'big' and 'important', as most never felt they had, they become stubborn, fanatic, and set in their path. Almost nothing can move them from their path then and we have a suicide bomber.

Them going to Turkey isn't that ironic, while Islam is the majority, there are still plenty pesky minorities around to blow up. And this way the extremists there can look innocent. Isn't that what any extremist wants? To destroy his enemies with little to no blame coming his way?

I think it is somehow ironic you can´t punish a person who is going to a terrorist camp in order to become a suicide bomber in Germany .
There are no laws yet against something like that . . They are planning to invent some now .

What do you think, Eren...
are those wannabe - suicide-bombers to take serious , or do they just want us to be afraid so that we agree on more soldiers going to Afghanistan ?

I think we should take them seriously, cuz OK these two were probably dickheads who wanted to do something they couldn't accomplish (like losers who wanna rob the liquor store, and get caught even before they can grab the gun Very Happy ), but the suicide bombers in UK, even the failing ones, weren't joking at all. And they had all grown up there. Nobody expected them to do that.

True. The training camps are all in Pakistan, what are we gonna do, send troops in Pakistan too? This makes no sense.

You see , the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan was drawn from the British Empire
back in the 1890ies.....
And I don´t think people living there accept it as a border .
They are in tribal or liguistic relationship with each other ..
Afghanistan is a many-nation-country and many-language -country as Pakistan is ,too .
Already during the war between Afghanistan and Russia in the 80ies afghan people fled to
refugee camps in Pakistan .
Weapons came and come from Pakistan ,Taliban schools are in Pakistan .And terrorist camps .
Some suspect bin Laden to be there in Waziristan .
There´s an article about U.S. troops acting in this part of Pakistan named Waziristan

Thank you. People need to be reminded of that all the time, because there are people who don't know any better than to throw accusations without looking for the truth.

Unfortunately, that is the case. The biggest danger of such extremists/terrorists is that they prey on the minds of unsuspecting youth who can easily be manipulated and brainwashed. Its really sad and disturbing how Islam - a religion of peace - is being distorted and mutilated to serve the purposes of these terrorists. One outcome of this, is that a great majority of people think that's what Islam is all about; killing and slaughtering, which is completely detached from truth. A shame, really.

May God bless you all and protect you from harm.

It’s time for the bands these kids are listening to to deliver something deeper than just "‘let’s party"
