I realize that this isn't getting a lot of national news coverage, but I wanted to remind people that Hurricane Ike recovery remains a huge problem for people in Texas and Louisiana. There appears to be quite a bit of loss of life in parts of the Tex/Louisiana Coast. I saw a Yahoo News article a couple of days ago that used the figure tens of thousands in reference to the missing.
Here, a Houston journalist appears on the verge of getting into a fist fight with Texas Gov. Perry (a.k.a. Gov Blowdry) about the news blackout regarding parts of the Bolivar Peninsula: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge0dxJfx ... 609435/pg1 And I just read that they are going to bring cadaver dogs onto the Bolivar Peninsula tomorrow. A local news station's site has some decent Hurricane recovery coverage: http://www.woai.com/home.aspx
One of my coworkers says her husband is doing contracting work in Louisiana right now. He's 200 miles inland, and he says the damage is so bad there, he's afraid to go closer to the Coast.
Regarding the "controlled" news about the loss of life and severe, widespread damage, some believe that our corporate masters don't want pictures that resemble Katrina damage to become public so soon before the US Presidential elections. They don't want people to be reminded of how badly Bush handled Katrina before they approach the ballot box.
But please send at least a kind thought towards those recovering from Hurricane Ike. Millions of people have been directly affected by this storm. |

Weird, here (Italy) the news just spoke about it when it was approaching US, then nothing. As if it never existed. Same with the even worse news from Haiti, who remembers it?
The only thing that seems to matter to the local news-makers is the national airline company going bankrupt. |

True , they were reporting a lot , when Ike ( and his predecessors) were approaching
the Gulf Of Mexico .
Probably they were worried about the oil platforms more than about the people . |

| Yeah, it's much worse than is being reported. My father is doing some surveying there for some company he freelances for and he's as near to the coast as is being allowed. He sas they fund a few bodies when taking stock of the damage. The way it's been blacklisted from the media is sick, all those people and their entire lives destroyed and it's not being reported on because it's bad for business. |

The crack of some financial vultures is the most important thing atm, and even then, media don't give a snake's fuck about the life of fired employees and stuff. And of course, there's an electoral campaign going on.
A blitzkrieg between Russia and US could take place and we would never know... |

Some civilians have been sneaking into Galveston by disguising their vehicles as contractor trucks. http://www.woai.com/news/local/story.as ... 58ef5aa4da
Some people made it through the storm just fine. Gilchrist is gone except for one house. People are being allowed back into Beaumont, TX this weekend. That's a city of 110,000.
The media will report on the 49 natural gas and oil platforms badly damaged by Ike--but not on the loss of life. Yep, you can really tell what matters to our corporate masters.
The city of San Antonio is feeding several of the communities along the Coast two hot meals a day with mobile cantinas. The cantinas don't give out water and ice. FEMA isn't even distributing ice any more. Only private groups--like the Tejano radio stations--are handing out ice, which some people need to keep their medicine cool. FEMA is supposed to repay San Antonio for its expenses in the hurricane relief, but last I heard FEMA hadn't even paid the city for its relief expenses from helping Hurricane Gustav refugees. |

| i wouldn't have heard anything about the hurricane's damage if mike from linkin park hadn't posted a blog about how linkin park is trying to help here (with their music for relief fund). i was actually completely unaware that a hurricane was heading towards texas until i heard about that. i'm completely oblivious. |

Oh yeah. That one crocks my snorkel too. The government doesn't want to buy ice to keep diabetics' insulin cold after their homes were destroyed on the Gulf Coast--but they are willing to steal billions and billions of Tax Payers' dollars to help cover bankers' asses. Oh yeah, Mr. Corporate Monster needs a few hundred thousand to keep the payments going on his mansion--but is there anything for Joe Blow whose house got smashed by a hurricane? No. Stick him in an FEMA camp and charge him for it later!
We're being robbed. This freaking destruction of our financial system is part of a Fascist takeover of the US. They're nationalizing our banks, for Pete's sake! How fascist is that?!? Oh man. Don't get me started. Wait, you just did.
Huge parts of Houston still don't have running water and electricity!!! And the Feds are bailing out the freaking corporate banking goons?!?!?! No wonder they don't want the reality of the Gulf Coast horror to be in the news. |

And so the transition begins.....
Yeah, it sucks.
It sucks totally. If 700 billion isn't going for relief efforts, it can sink for all I care. |
