SO!
from reading all of the reactions that the soad members make when there asked about soad getting back together, the was i see it is... well ill say this first:
if you look in media player at the composers of the soad songs, it starts off with some Serj only songs, and and partly Darron, and the way it sounds as they go along in time is that Darron wrights more, and you can see this too in that composer list, there are some Darron only songs.

so what I'm guessing for what happened to soad is that, Darron and Serj being the main writers:
Darron wanted a more rock sound like scars on Broadway, you can hear the last 2 system albums lean to that kinda,
and Serj, well his first solo album sounds more like early system to me, so it kinda does show that he was the first main writer for them, and didn't want Darron's sound that much

That and one last thing i do want to say is that... Serj is the singer, if Darron starts singing, what does he have to do? sit there? i mean c'mon, i don't hate Darron, or his voice, but still...
(I'd also say that shavo and john are just kinda, spectators, john may lean towards Darron a bit, but whatever)
I would like to hear your opinions

I'm pretty sure Daron wrote all of SOAD's material, but Serj did write a few songs for the band.
And the thing about the media player thing, I think it's only like that because it's in alphabetical order.

In my opinion SOAD never really broke up, they're just taking a break from eachother to explore and make new music through different genres and inspirations.

SOAD will be back for sure, just give them their time for themselves. Wink

i thought the answer is pretty obvious.

Listen to Serj's album.

Now listen to Daron's.

Compare the two.

Does it sound like they're producing the same style?

NO! Serj wants to make music thats jazzy and with a orchestra and he even stated he wants to stay away from making another rock album and Daron wants to just make weird hard rock music.

You see the problem? Thus they broke up and probably will stay broken up unless they get back to wanting to make the same style of music again.

i shouldn't have put "breakup" there, but whatever, and i dont really know what you mean when you say its alphabetical order, I'm saying that when you look in the media library it shows the composers as a tab, but another theory i would like to throw out there, i had once heard (and am kinda iffy about) the song money by serj is about darron.
and I'm sure you probably do agree that serj sounds more old school system right?

I don't think Serj's album sounded like old System at all other than the fact that it was just him singing.

What I ment about the Alphabetcal thing was that in the media player and it shows the compsers, it shows Daron Malakian first then Serj Tankian. Then you see some other songs that say just Daron and some just Serj.

And the thing about Serj's song "Money", it's not actually about Daron. It was just a guess of the lyrics would of meant.

Yes. Music wise, Daron was always the main music composer for the band. He brought the music pieces in with structured melodies and a lot of times wrote songs that catered to what Serj was into. For the first 3 albums, Serj handled the bulk of the lyrics with some help here and there. Just like Daron handled the music with some help here and there.

Daron's writing took a shift in between Toxicity and Mez/Hyp. Naturally, the songs would sound different from the older work and similar to Scars since he was the music composer for the band.

Pretty interesting, personally I think they had an argument with eachother and now they just need to chill from eachother, that's why Shavo and John still hang out with both Serj and Daron

Obviously something happend that sparked the hiatus. I mean come on how do you go about being in one of the most popular bands, playing some of the biggest tours on the planet, and then only say Happy birthday to each other?

Read the interviews, Daron doesnt want to talk about it and neither does Serj. SOMETHING must have happend that they arn't telling us.

Believe what you want but it doesn't make sense that Daron and Serj arn't talking. Not to say there is a hatred between the two because it's most likely resolved now. But honestly I think musical differences are what made it happen because thats the usuall statement from bands that break up.

To be honest, I really think Serj wanted to go solo and do his own thing. Not just musically, but I think he wanted to express more of his political and philosophical views that didn't really represent all of the band member's views.

Nothing is wrong with that though, and if that's what happen, it's totally respectable. There's a lot going on in the world right now, and maybe they don't all share the same opinions.

Everyone wants everything written down for them. It's like:"What does it mean for you?" You figure it out !
