I am 16 years old. I've been a member of this site for a long time but this is my first post so please go easy on me
I think everyone knows that this song is about the war in iraq
I believe that too
but after listening to it many times and seeing it performed live i thaught of this alternative meaning about kids going to college
I know these lyrics are correct because i got them straight from the booklet in the elect the dead album
Empty walls, Empty walls
*the empty walls refur to the college itself
Pretentious attention
Dismissive apprehension
*the definition of pretentious is basically feeling important.
As kids are getting to college they have a feeling that they are growing up and feel important and attention for paying attention in class
Dismissive apprehension is the kids trying to understand what they are learning while dealing with the distractions of college life
Don't waste your time on coffins today
*this is saying they shouldnt waste their time on drinking and partying and things that will lead them nowhere but to their death
When we decline from the confines of our mind
*They need to expand their mind and be open to learning new things

Dying of Anticipation
Choking from intoxication
*1. I dont really have anything for the 1st line. Maybe saying we need to see the problems they are facing
2. 2nd line Desolate because they are finally out on their own and full of yearning because they cant wait to start this new chapter in their life. they are excited for all the new possibilities and oppertunities they now have
3. Again they cant wait to get to college and then to get out into the real world
4. The excessive drinking often involved with the college experience
I want you to be left behind those empty walls
Taunt you to see from behind those empty walls
* The pressure put on kids to go to college and succeed and compete in this world
That pretty much covers the whole song
