That would be awesome Smile

And I can also add the next chapter of this wonderful, never ending story... it was my turn this time, including a little family drama and some more... enjoy Very Happy Very Happy

(...)

The next morning, Serj got up and left the house hours before Daron probably even opened his big eyes. He had slept like a stone – maybe it was a good idea to taste some of his sweet boyish drug right before falling asleep – and didn’t feel bad at all during the whole day. The only thing he worried about was his apartment. Not that he did mind Daron staying at his place, it was just... you never knew what this guy was up to, maybe he would be bored and decide that the walls needed to be painted in a bright pink. Serj had to giggle at the image in his mind and was only interrupted by the annoying sound of the ringing telephone. God! Can’t they invent something nice, maybe let it play music when someone calls.
“Tankian here, hello?”
“Barev, this is Tankian as well.”
“Oh – hello Sevag. What’s up?”
“Ah, not much. I just realized we haven’t seen each other in a while, so I decided to call you. Not that we would see each other now, but... you know. How are you doing, Serj? Still lots of work to do?”
“Yeah, I’m working my f..., uhm, my ass off, hehe.” Come on, this is your brother, don’t act like you were talking to a stranger! “How about you, how’s your family doing? Gosh, I haven’t see Mary and the little one for ages...”
“Exactly. That’s why we would like to invite you for dinner at our place. Tonight. I know that’s pretty short-termed, but...”
“No, no, it’s alright”, Serj interrupted him, “I’d love to come over. Really.”
“Great. I’ll see you at seven then. Oh, and you may bring someone along... you know. See you tonight.”
“Yeah... see ya...” Serj hung up the phone. It was a good idea to meet for dinner – probably it had been Mary’s, Sevag wasn’t really into such things – and he felt a bit stupid for not being the first one to suggest it. Especially considering the fact that he always complained about meeting his brother way too seldom. Ah well, after all that had happened lately, Serj wondered that he was still able to think at all. “You may bring someone along”. Ha! The only person to bring along would be a skinny nineteen year old boy who wore nail polish. The boy who probably ruined his apartment right now. Or already had ruined it over the day. Serj hurried home and was a bit surprised that everything seemed to be alright when he unlocked the door and entered his home. Yeah. The house wasn’t burnt down, the walls were not pink, the furniture was still inside. “Hey Daron”, he called, once, twice, before the boy appeared in the kitchen door. But wait – was this really Daron? “Holy shit, what the fuck have you done? You look like... I don’t know... boy, what have you done?”
“Haha, don’t piss your pants, dude”, the boy laughed, rubbing his palm all over his bald head. “I was bored of my hair, so I shaved it. Looks good, eh?”
“Uhm... I don’t know...” Serj was way too kind to tell his lover that he looked like an oversized baby doll. “Oh man, your hair was so beautiful!”
“Aww, and now I’m not beautiful anymore?” The boy moved closer and wrapped his arms around his lover’s back, kissing him softly. “You don’t have no manners, Serj, you don’t even say hello to me after we haven’t seen eachother all day. How are you? Did you sleep well, eh?”
“Hehe, yeah, very well... and I’m fine, thanks. What have you done all day, I mean, besides shaving your head?” Which was bad enough.
“Ah, not much, this and that, you know... aww, Serj, I’ve got a fucking great idea, let’s go out tonight! I wanna party!”
Serj moved back a little – it was easier to tell the boy he couldn’t get what he wanted with a little distance between them – and scratched his head. “Uhm, sorry, dude, not tonight. My brother called me and invited me for dinner, you know, so I’ll be at his place tonight...”
“Oh – yeah, great, so let’s go to your brother’s.”
“What?”
“I’ll come with you”, Daron grinned, “I’d really love to meet your brother, man.”
“Nah, Dar, I don’t think that’s a good idea...” In fact, it was the was most stupid thing Serj had heard of since he had tried to blackmail Daron’s former boss with a fake picture that didn’t even exist.
“Why not? I bet your brother is a cool guy, I mean, come on, he is your brother – I’m sure he won’t mind me around.”
“Yeah, but...” It wasn’t easy for Serj to find the right words. “I mean, what does that look like when I bring you along.” Those were NOT the right words, he knew it right the moment they left his mouth.
“Oh, thank you. I’m good enough for making love but you don’t wanna introduce me to your brother? Are you ashamed of me?”
Well, with that haircut... if you could call it a haircut. “No, Dar, of course not. It would just be too hard to explain to Sevag. He would ask me a shitload of questions why I’m not bringing any chick but a boy with black fingernails. I don’t need that, man, I just wanna have a nice evening.”
Daron pulled a face and gave him puppy eyes. “But... we never go out together. We never have fun. I know that’s mainly my fault, okay, but... I wanna have a nice evening, too. With you, Serj. I wanna meet your brother. I wanna be a part of your life. Please!”
Those goddamned eyes! Serj cursed himself for not being able to resist them. “Okay, okay, you can come with me. But Dar, please, promise that you won’t act like a fag all night! I’ll introduce you as a good friend of mine, I’m not ready to tell Sevag the truth yet.” And I’m not sure if I will ever be, he added in his mind. Daron nodded hastily and looked like a kid whose Dad promised him candy if he was a good boy. “I promise. Aw, Serj, I’m so happy!” He jumped into his lover’s arms and hugged him tight. Although the older man had to smile broadly, he tried to hide it. “Ah, I don’t know why I agree on that anyway. I mean, just look at you! I should lock you up inside the house and not let you out until your hair has grown again.”
“Aw, come on, it’s not THAT bad.” The boy made a step backwards and rubbed his bald head again. “I didn’t wanna look like a child anymore, thought this would make me look a bit more mature...”
“If you wanna look mature, grow a full beard”, Serj laughed, shaking his head. “To be honest, Daron, when I came in, I felt an urge to punch you for doing this.”
Daron giggled. “Really? I thought you were Mr. Peaceful, hehe.” He turned his back on Serj, dropped his pants and bent over. “Come on, Daddy, give your bad boy a good spanking.”
Serj took a few seconds to admire his lover’s cute butt – and he really had a cute butt, damnit! – and then kicked his ass softly with the tip of his sneaker. “Get out! We gotta leave soon of we don’t wanna be late, so come on, get dressed. And Dar – no make up, d’you get me?”

Daron whistled happily as they were on their way to Sevag’s house. He couldn’t hide that he was immensely proud that Serj had agreed on taking him there. On the other hand, it was only fair – Serj knew his Dad already, and now he himself would meet someone from the Tankian family. Yay! He was ready for almost everything. Which in this case meant acting like a kind young man and show that he had manners as well. Something he usually wouldn’t do voluntarily, but for Serj, he was willing to do everything.
“Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Sevag, I am Serj’s brother”, the man who opened the door introduced himself, shaking Daron’s hand. “I know”, the boy answered smiling. And even if he had not known, it was obvious to see. Sevag was a smaller, slightly chubbier version of Serj. “Barev. Nice to meet you, too, I’m Daron.”
“I hope it’s okay that I brought him”, Serj explained while he hugged his brother warmly. “He’s a good friend of mine, and...”
“It’s alright”, Sevag replied and flashed Daron with a smile that was almost as amazing as Serj’s. “I said you could bring someone, right? Come in, dinner is almost ready.”
And it was awesome! Daron loved traditional Armenian cooking, all those good things his Mom used to make for him when he was younger, and he almost felt like in some kind of food heaven. He really had to force himself not to stuff everything in his mouth like he usually did.
“Someone really seems to like my cooking”, Mary smiled when he again asked for the bowl with minced meat. She was a kind woman with friendly eyes and didn’t look Armenian at all.
“Indeed”, Daron replied, shoving food on his plate, “man, I haven’t had Airarater Kolak for ages! It’s delicious, really.”
“Thank you. I’m glad you like it.”
“See, and you were not sure what to cook tonight”, Sevag said to his wife, and then to Daron: “You know, it’s not so easy to choose the right meals when you have a vegetarian in your family. So Mary made Airarater Kolak the way we know it and additionally had to prepare a meatless alternative for my beloved brother.”
Serj rolled his eyes. “Which is delicious as well, by the way.”
“I always try to change his mind”, Daron interrupted him, “I mean, come on, how can you live on all this green stuff. That’s just not the way humans are supposed to eat.”
“So we are supposed to eat dead animals?”, Serj answered. Daron began to regret that he had started this discussion again. It always ended up into a more or less bad argument. “Great. If you find a smashed cat on the pavement next time, go ahead and eat it. But well, as far as I know you, you would even do it. Wouldn’t be worse than all this fast food stuff anyway.”
“You’re worse than my Dad”, Daron giggled, “but hey, alright, if you promise to make some real food for me in the future, I won’t eat so many burgers and fries anymore.”
“If you don’t like my food, it’s your problem”, Serj shook his head, “and by the way, nobody forces you to live with me, you know...”
Oops. Daron and his lover gazed at eachother, and the boy could tell that Serj would have given his left arm to take back the last sentence. But it was too late. “Wait”, Sevag said with narrowed eyebrows, “you guys live together?”
“Uhm... yeah... well...” Serj didn’t seem to find any words. Which was weird enough, come on, he was the one who talked the asshole Gertmenian to pieces. But now Daron had to help him out. “Yeah, you know, I’ve been in some trouble lately, I had to move back to my parents for a reason, and man, I really love my parents but I just can’t live with them anymore. They still treat me like a kid, you know what I mean. I would’ve ended up in the streets if I had not moved to Serj. He’s my best friend. The best I’ve ever had.” Which was not even a lie. It was the truth with some make up to make it suitable for the family. And it seemed to work. “Ah, yeah, that’s Serj”, Sevag smiled (Daron couldn’t help it but think that this kind of smile had to be inherited - the Tankian Smile), “he is always there for you when you need him. It’s good to have someone like him by your side, right?”
“Right”, Daron agreed. “I’m glad I met him. He kinda saved me, if you know what I mean.” From the corner of his eye, he saw his lover shake his head slowly. Underneath the table, the boy reached out for his knee and squeezed it gently. Serj jerked like he had been struck by a flash and slammed his knee against the hard wood. “Ow, fuck!” Everyone stopped eating for a moment. “Are you alright?”, Sevag wanted to know. Serj’s face turned scarlet red as he bowed his head and rubbed his leg. “Uhm... yeah, sorry... just had a cramp...”
“Maybe you are sitting in your office a bit too much”, Mary teased him in a very friendly way. Daron wondered if she could ever freak out and yell or break stuff. Probably not. She looked like she had never gone through any shit in her life. Lucky her. “Don’t worry”, he chuckled, “I’ll make sure he will do some sports in the near future, hehehe.”
“Ah, that’s good. It’s so much easier to do sports in company. You guys could do some running together. Or cycling.”
“Nah, I thought of something like... gymnastics, hehe. Or maybe I’ll teach Serj how to dance, the way my father taught me when I was a kid. I’m sure he would be great at dancing.”
“Daron, please...”, Serj started but Sevag interrupted him: “No, no, I wanna know more about that. What kind of dances are we talking about?”
Daron couldn’t resist saying “Bellydance”. Everyone burst out with laughter. Everyone except Serj, of course. He rather looked like he wished for the ground to open and swallow him. “Nah, I mean all kinds of folk dances. My Dad is a dance teacher, he is also into music and painting and everything artistic in general. Maybe you’ve heard of him, Vartan Malakian.”
Mary and Sevag stopped eating and gazed at eachother. “Vartan Malakian is your father?”, Sevag repeated. “Of course I know him – not in person, but well, he is pretty famous in Little Armenia...”
“Yeah, he is”, Daron smiled, again feeling proud to be his father’s son. “He’s a great guy. Hey, can I have some more wine, please?”
Mary got up and left the room to get another bottle of red wine. Damnit, not only the food was awesome, the wine was, too. Daron felt well and comfortable, more than he had expected. He could imagine being a part of this family. Yeah. And Serj would become a part of his. Happily, he gazed at his lover, just to realize that Serj did obviously not feel well at all. All his muscles seemed to have contracted as he sat there with his head bowed, staring into his plate. He looked so miserable that Daron felt an irresistable urge to hug him. Which he did not. He just smiled at his lover and again gently touched his leg, taking care that Sevag didn’t notice. Serj did not react at all. Right the moment Mary returned with the bottle in her hand, a child started crying upstairs. “Oh, sounds like Joey woke up”, she smiled, “I’ll just go up and calm him down, be right back...”
“Let me do it”, Serj said quickly and got up, “I haven’t seen him for such a long time. You don’t mind, do you?”
“No, of course not... he will be happy to see you, he likes you a lot.”
“I’ll go, too”, Daron decided, “I wanna say hi to the young man as well.“
“Alright”, Sevag agreed, “but please, don’t play with him too much, it’s late and if he doesn’t fall asleep soon again, he will keep us up all night.”

Serj hurried upstairs into the children’s room. He did not take care if Daron was able to follow him or not, he would have prefered to have some minutes on his own anyway. Joey stood in his little bed, crying as loud as he could. “Heey, Joey”, Serj said in a low voice. “What’s up, huh? Had a bad dream?” The little boy stopped crying immidiately and gazed at his uncle with his eyes wide open. “You still know me, hm?”, Serj smiled and took him in his arms. “Sure you do. How are you doing, my favourite little nephew?”
Daron appeared in the door. “Hey, man, why don’t you wait for me... aww, what a cute boy. Is he alright?”
“Sure he is. Little children cry pretty often, that’s normal.”
Daron hesitated for a second, then shut the door behind him and moved closer. “Hello, young man. Wow, you look so much like your Daddy – without the beard, of course, hehe.” When he reached out to touch Joey’s dark hair, Serj made a step backwards. “Don’t. He is pretty sensitive about strangers, I don’t want him to start crying right again.”
“Aw. Okay.”
Serj turned his back on him, gently rocking his nephew in his arms. The child murmured with pleasure. “Can’t he speak yet?”, Daron wanted to know.
“He is not even two years old. You don’t speak properly at that age.” To support his uncle’s words, Joey said something that sounded like “mommy gaga”. “See?”
“Yeah... aw man, too bad that we won’t have kids, dude, you look so beautiful with a child...”
“Shh!” It was only thanks to little Joey that Serj did not start yelling or slapping his boyfriend. “What? Whattsa matter with you, Serj?”
“What’s the matter with YOU? Damnit, I told you not to act like a fag, and what do you do? Tell my brother you wanna teach me how to bellydance. Thank you.”
“Calm down, dude. That was a joke. Everyone laughed about it. No need to get mad at me.”
Serj rolled his eyes and pressed the little body of his nephew closer to his chest. Daron just didn’t seem to understand anything. “And why did you touch my knee? And my hand, every time you were reaching out for the bowl? You wanted to act like my best friend but you don’t. I should not have taken you here.”
“Oh, forgive me for being who I am”, Daron replied angrily, “that’s just the way I act, and if you don’t like it, you should ask yourself if you wanna be with me at all.”
“That’s not the point, I just...” Joey started whining again when Serj accidently raised his voice. “Aw I’m sorry, sweetie... stupid adults have to argue all the time, I know...”
The little boy raised his head, giggled happily and grabbed Serj’s big nose with his right hand. The two men laughed. Serj looked right into his nephew’s big dark eyes that showed nothing but innocence and curiosity. I envy you, Joey, he thought, you don’t know nothing about how fucking complicated life can be. You just do what you feel. I wish I could do that, too. Daron’s hand on his shoulder brought him back to reality. “I didn’t wanna make you feel bad”, the boy whispered, “but when I’m around you, I can’t hide how much I love you. I don’t do that on purpose, I just can’t play hide and seek all the time.”
“It’s alright”, Serj replied softly, “it’s not your fault. I don’t know why I thought it would be a good idea to come here with you. Not because of you, don’t get me wrong, but... this just does not work.”
“Agree. And what are we gonna do now?”
Serj sighed and shrugged, trying to free his nose from Joey’s small hands because it is not easy to think while someone is stuffing his fingers in your nostrils. “Let’s try to get out of this as good as we can. I mean, besides all this, you’re having a good time, huh?”
Daron smiled and nodded his head. “Yeah. Your brother and Mary are really cool people. And the food... delicious, man, absolutely!”
“Indeed. Hey, Dar?”
“Huh?”
“Wanna hold Joey for a moment?”
Daron’s eyes widened. Even more than usual. “Really?” Serj nodded and handed him the warm little body. It was incredibly cute to see his lover hold a little kid, although or because Daron seemed to be a bit insecure, like he was afraid to hurt the little boy or accidently drop him. “Hee-yaa, Joey, Joey-Joe-Joe. My name is Daron, can you say that? Daron?”
Joey looked at him like he had never seen a human before (well, probably he had never seen a human with such big eyes and a bald head) and pointed at his face. “DarDar.”
Again, the two man laughed. “I’ll go down again”, Daron said then, carefully putting Joey back into his little bed. “Before someone has to come up and get us, hehe.”
“Yeah, alright... I’ll be down in a minute as well.” Serj sat down on the chair in front of the bed and began to stroke Joey’s hair, hoping he would fall asleep soon. Behind him, he heard the door open and Daron’s footsteps leave the room. With a smile, Serj started humming an old Armenian folk song his Dad had sang to him when he had been a child. Now, twenty years later, he did not remember the lyrics but the tune. Funny enough that he remembered it at all. The door opened again. “I thought you wanted to go down”, he said, not turning around. “Be quiet, I think Joey has just fallen asleep again...”
“I’m not Daron.” Sevag! Serj spun around and tried a kind smile, already knowing that he failed. “Ah hey... I was just about to come down as well...”
“No need to hurry.” Sevag took a look into his son’s bed and nodded. “Yeah, he is asleep. Good. Serj, can I talk to you for a moment?”
Serj’s heart missed a beat. Or two. “Uhm, yeah, sure... what’s the matter?”
“Not in here. Let’s go to my office.”

The office was not really what one would expect according to the name. Actually, it was a small room right next to the children’s room, furnitured with two chairs, a few shelves and a desk. It looked like Sevag had put this stuff inside because he did not know anything else to do with it. Serj felt pretty uncomfortable when his brother closed the door behind them and offered him a cigarette. He smoked nervously while Sevag opened the window and explained that Mary did not like the smell of cigarette smoke. “So what is it you wanna talk about?”, Serj asked when he couldn’t stand the silence that followed anymore. “Is there anything wrong? With Mary or Joey?”
“No, not at all...” Sevag gazed out of the open window. “Are you having fun tonight, Serj?”
“What – yeah, sure... oh wait, I think I know what this is all about, it’s Daron, right? I admit, maybe I shouldn’t have brought him but he didn’t wanna spend all evening home alone, so I...”
“Daron is a nice guy”, Sevag interrupted him, “it’s fine that you brought him, don’t worry. I just wondered... he is your friend, right?”
Serj narrowed his eyebrows and scratched his beard. “Yeah.”
“Are you sure he’s not... more to you than just a friend?”
Once again, Serj’s poor heart almost stopped beating. “What... I don’t know what you mean... he’s a friend, why...”
Sevag turned around and gave his brother a look that said something like ‘who are you trying to fool anyway’. “I’m not blind, Serj. This boy definitely likes you more than you usually like a friend. Correct me if I’m wrong but Daron is, you know, gay, isn’t he?”
For a moment, Serj felt like passing out and painfully regretted that he did not. “Yeah, he’s gay... but that’s okay, I don’t mind. I never knew you had a problem with that, by the way...”
“Oh, no, no, I don’t. Don’t get me wrong.”
“So what is it then?”
“I came up to see if Joey was alright”, Sevag said slowly, staring at his shoes like they could tell him what to do next, “and I heard you guys speak in his room... I didn’t mean to listen, but before I could go away again, I heard Daron say that he loves you and he couldn’t play hide and seek anymore. That’s none of my business, I know, but I just – this doesn’t make any sense to me. I won’t ask you to explain anything to me, I’ll just say if there’s anything you wanna talk about...”
Once again, Serj had run out of words. That had happened way too often since he had first met Daron, and now he just felt that he could not stand all this anymore. He was tired of hiding his feelings, he was tired of pretending to be something he was not, he was sick and tired of everything. “Yeah, it’s true”, he heard himself say, “Daron and me, we are a couple.”
Only ten words but it felt like there was a giant rock falling off his chest. Even though Sevag looked at him like he had just started speaking Chinese. “What exactly do you mean, a couple?!”
“A couple... what can I say... we are in love.”
Sevag still did not seem to understand the words he heard. Serj could almost see his brother’s mind working. None of them spoke for at least two or three minutes that seemed to last an eternity. “Say something”, Serj finally pleaded.
“I wish I could... I just don’t know... I mean, you and that boy... forgive me for being speechless as I discover that my brother is in love with...” Sevag took a deep breath and lit another cigarette right after the first one, not offering one to Serj this time. “How long has this been going on, I mean, how long have you known that you – prefer guys?”
“Only a few months. It all started when I met Daron. It was like he put a spell on me, don’t ask me how it happened, I don’t know. I never met someone like him before. Right the first night, we ...”
“Oh, please!” Sevag lifted both hands and pulled a face like someone had spit right into his eyes. “I still don’t get it – you’ve always been with girls before. That’s true, isn’t it?”
“Yeah...”
“And all of a sudden, you decide that you are into guys now? What does that mean? Are you a homosexual now? Or do you like guys and girls? Or what?”
“Hell, I don’t know!” Serj exclaimed, shaking his head. “It’s not that easy for me, okay? That’s nothing you choose voluntarily. I didn’t wake up one day and said, hey, from now on I’ll be into guys. That’s not the way it works. I don’t know what’s gonna happen in the future, but for now, all I know is that I want Daron and nobody else.”
“Maybe it’s just, I don’t know, something like an early midlife crisis. Maybe you should go out and spend some time with women, just to see if you...”
“No!”
“But how can you be sure that this is the right thing?”, Sevag went on as if he had not heard his brother at all. “Sometimes people get curious about things they’ve never tried before, and when they try it, they believe this is what they wanted. And after some time, they discover that it was wrong and they were only lead by curiosity and boredom.”
“Bullshit!” Serj spoke up much louder than he had wanted to. “That’s nothing you can explain, you just KNOW that you’re doing the right thing. How could you know that Mary is the right woman for you?”
“That’s something completey different!”
“No, it’s not! Whatever you say, you’re not gonna change my mind anyway. I myself tried to change it, believe me. I tried to tell myself that it wasn’t happening, tried to hide it, to act like everything was the same as usual. But I’m not gonna do this anymore. That’s against everything I believe in. I am who I am, and if you wanna kick me out and tell me that I’m not your brother anymore, alright, go ahead.” For the first time since he had ran into the skinny hooker boy, Serj was able to breathe again. Breathe without that terrible rock on his chest. Sevag glanced at him, stroke his beard and shook his head slowly. It was amazing how much he looked like Dad when he did that. “Don’t be ridiculous! You’ll be my brother, no matter what happens, and I’ll definitely never kick you out of my house. Well, if Daron was five years younger, I might, but...” It had probably been a joke. Nobody laughed though. “I guess you haven’t told Mom and Dad yet, huh?”
“Hell, no!” That would be too much honesty. WAY too much. “Sevag... I know this is not easy, I’m sorry you had to find out about it this way, but... I’m begging you, please, don’t tell them! They would – Dad would freak out, and Mom... I don’t wanna hurt them.”
“You know me, Serj. Of course I won’t tell anyone. Not even Mary, if you insist. But I’m afraid you won’t be able to keep your secret forever.”
“I know”, Serj nodded, torn between the urge to hug his brother and the urge to burst into tears, “I know... I just need some more time, and I absolutely don’t want them to find out like you did.”
“I hope they won’t, I really do.” Sevag shut the window and let go a long sigh. Serj silenty agreed with that. “Well, I’m not really hungry anymore but I guess we should go down again. Mary and – your friend are probably missing us already.”
Serj nodded wordlessly. When Sevag passed him by on the way to the door, their eyes locked, and only a second later, they were holding eachother like they had not done for a really long time. “I love you, no matter what”, Sevag said softly, causing Serj to cry a silent tear. “I love ya, too, man. Thank you. Thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome.” Sevag released his brother from his tight hug and smiled. “I just hope you won’t start wearing pink dresses in the future.”
“Nah, don’t worry, I’ll leave that up to Daron.” When his brother gazed at him with his mouth half open, Serj had to laugh out loud. “Just kidding, man, just kidding.”
“I never know with you.” Sevag punched his shoulder in a friendly way. “And now let’s go down, I really need a drink.”

“Wow, man, this was such an amazing night!” Daron was not able to sit still on the passenger’s seat when they were on their way home. He was as full as could be, a little – or a little more – intoxicated and still overwhelmed by the kind and friendly atmosphere that had surrounded him for the last few hours. “Your brother and Mary are awesome people, and aww, little Joey is really cute! Oh my God, and the food! Serj, I know you’re a good cook, please, you gotta make something like that for me as well! Please! I would die for it!”
Serj only stared at the dark street in front of him and did not answer. “Hey, Serj. You’re deaf, or what?”
“No, but in case you haven’t noticed, I’m trying to drive a car. All your talking distracts me.”
Daron raised his eyebrows. Since they had first met, Serj had given him a ride several times, and although he was a rather careful and boring driver, he never focused on the streets that much. “Did I do anything wrong?”
“No.”
”So why are you so pissed?”
“I’m not pissed, I’m just... ah, forget it.”
With a sigh, Daron rolled his eyes and leaned his hot forehead against the window. Why couldn’t they just have some fun together without arguing or getting into trouble? “Dude, if I did anything wrong, why don’t you just tell me?!”
“It wasn’t you...” Serj paused, right the same moment when he stopped the car at red traffic lights in front of them. “Well, in a way, it was you... Sevag knows about us.”
“What? Holy shit, man – how did he find out, did you tell him?”
“Yeah. Sort of. He heard us speak in Joey’s room, you know, he came up right the moment when you said that you love me and stuff.”
“Oh fuck!” Daron rubbed his cheeks with both hands, trying to get sober which miserably failed. “And then you told him... my God, what did he say?”
“Well, he wasn’t too happy.” The traffic lights switched to green, and the car began to move forward again. “Actually, he tried to persuade me that I’m just going through some kind of midlife crisis. Other people buy a fast car or a motorbike, I’m fucking a pretty boy, whatever.”
Daron giggled. “I hope you told him that I’m not a toy.”
“Sure. I told him – let’s say, now he knows more than he wanted to.”
“And?”
“And what?”
“Oh, man, don’t pretend to be stupid! He must have said something more. You’ve been upstairs together for quite a long time – that was when you talked about it, right? So come on, what happened? Did he freak out?”
Slowly and without showing any emotion, Serj told Daron about the conversation with his brother. The boy expected a shitload of swear words, insults, whatever, but according to his lover, it had all ended with a huge hug and everlasting brotherly love. Like in a soap opera. “Wow, that’s cool, man, isn’t it?”, he exclaimed. “So everything’s alright for now. He’s kinda fine with it and he won’t tell your parents, I mean, it couldn’t be any better, eh?” For some reason, Serj did not look happy at all. “Hey, what’s the matter?”
“Don’t know... I just...” The older man took a deep breath. “I just don’t understand what’s going on. I mean, whenever I’ve been with a girl, I could easily tell everyone about it, and they were all like ‘aw, we’re so happy for you’ and stuff. And now I’m in love like I’ve never been before, and I gotta hide it just because we are the same sex. What a sick world are we living in, huh?”
“The world sucks, man”, Daron grinned, “believe me, nobody knows that better than I do. But sometimes there’s not only shit everywhere, you know, you and me, we met in this fucking world, so...”
The two men glanced at each other and smiled. “Seriously, Dar”, Serj started then, “has all this been so difficult for you as well? I mean, when you found out that you are into guys?”
Daron giggled. Not because anything was funny. He always had to giggle when he was either drunk, stoned or nervous. “I hate to say it but I think for you it’s way more difficult, man. I’ve always known I was a fag, even as a kid when I didn’t even know there is a word for it. My friends knew about it all the time, I never had to hide anything. And my parents – well, after all I think my Dad has known it since I was a kid, too, he just didn’t want to realize. Until now, hehe.”
The car stopped at the next red traffic lights. They had almost reached their home now. “So you’ve never been with a girl?”, Serj’s voice tore the sudden silence. “Never even tried it?”
“Oh, I did try it. At least once. I thought I just had to – you should never judge anything you haven’t tried, right?”
“What happened?”
“Nothing. We made out and I wanted to fuck her, but well, my little friend here”, the boy patted his crotch, “just didn’t really wanna grow. The bitch got mad and left. And that was it. My first and last time with a chick.”
“Poor girl”, Serj laughed, “I bet she thought it was her fault.”
“In a way, it was, man. She was a chick. If she had been a hot guy instead... you know.” As the car moved on again, Daron gazed at his lover who focused on the street with a light smile on his thin lips. He looked amazing in profile. “Do you miss being with girls?”
“What? No.”
“Are you sure? Not dreaming of boobs and pussy anymore?”
“The only things I’m dreaming about are your cute little ass and your eyes”, Serj replied and twinkled at Daron. The boy felt his heart bounce up and down in his chest. “Good. I swear if I ever catch you with a woman, Ill kill her. And – and if I catch you with another guy, I’ll cut his dick off and stuff it down his throat.”
“Calm down, dude”, Serj laughed and parked the car in the driveway. “I don’t even feel like thinking about doing anything like that. The only guy I’m gonna touch except me am I myself, hehe.” He got out of the car and locked the door. Daron stared at him while he jumped out himself. “Aw – hey, Serj, will you let me watch when you touch yourself? Huh?”
“Get out!”
“No, really. I’d love to. Please!” Daron followed his lover inside the house and watched him switch on the lights, take off his shoes and jacket and get a beer from the fridge. “Pleeeeaaase!”
“I said get out! Stop bothering me, boy, I’ve had enough trouble for one night.”
Daron stood in the open kitchen door for a moment before an idea struck his mind. He giggled again, took Serj’s hand and led him into the living room. “What are you doing, Dar?”
“I’ve got a surprise for you. Come on, sit down.”
Serj seated himself in the armchair and gazed at his boyfriend with raised eyebrows. “I hope it’s a nice surprise.”
Daron didn’t answer. He lit a few candles and then went over to Serj’s record collection which was luckily as tidy as always, so it didn’t take him too long to find what he was looking for. Only seconds later, traditional Armenian folk music filled the room. The boy turned around to his lover who in the meantime had lit a cigarette and smoked wordlessly with an expectant look on his handsome face. With a smile, Daron took off his shirt and began to shake his hips to the rythm of the music. “I promised you a belly dance, remember?”
“What – you were serious with that?”
“Sure.” Slowly and with passionate movements of his lower body, the boy moved closer to Serj, raising his arms and shaking his hips and butt. He had watched more or less professional bellydancers dozens of times before and even tried it himself in his room, always hoping that Daddy wouldn’t catch him. “Come on, man, gimme some feedback. You like it?”
Serj looked like he was torn between laughter, surprise and excitement. “Uhm... yeah... it’s very cute. Dar, if we ever get our band done, you have to use this for our first gig, really, people will freak out.”
Daron placed himself in front of his lover, shaking his hips right before his face. “No way, dude. I’m gonna be the unpredictable psycho guitarist, the bad guy, not the hip-shaking fag. You can use it, I’m sure you’d look great, hehe.”
With a broad smile, Serj got up, took off his shirt as well and joined his boyfriend in a sort-of belly dance that looked more like he attempted to make love to the air. Daron giggled and nodded his head, admiring his lover’s body and movements that immidiately began to turn him on. “Damnit, Serj, you got magic in your hips!” He took the older guy in his arms, half dancing, half kissing him, and they ended up making out in the armchair. Daron would not have minded to go further but Serj pulled himself away from him. “I’m sorry, Dar, I’m not really in the mood for that now...”
“Don’t worry, man, I didn’t have that in mind anyway, I’m way too tired”, Daron lied and curled up on Serj’s lap. His lover wrapped his arms around him and held him so tight that he could hardly breathe anymore but he didn’t care. “Oh, man”, Serj sighed, “why can’t it always as easy as it is now? Why is everything so complicated as soon as we leave the house? God I wanna stay here with you forever.”
“And how are we supposed to become famous rockstars then?”
“Is that more important to you than being with me?”
The boy raised his head. “I wouldn’t wanna live without you or without music. I need both.”
“Well, I’ll take that as a compliment.” Serj gently urged Daron to get up. The boy obeyed complaining. “Aw man, that was so comfortable!”
“I know but I really need to go to bed now. I gotta get up again in less than six hours, as you might remember.”
“You should quit your fucking job and stay with me all the time.”
Serj laughed and gently kicked the boy’s ass. “No problem, I’m sure from tomorrow on it will rain money so we’ll just have to go out and catch it. Boy, sometimes I wonder what’s going on in your mind.”
“You don’t even wanna know”, Daron replied, sticking out his tongue at his lover. “Okay, so let’s go to sleep, I don’t want you to collapse due to a lack of sleep, old man, hehe.”

I know some fans only know the band for a couple of years but we have been around for almost twelve years. It’s been a lot of work getting to this point. We just need a break.
