I know there is already an existing topic on this but i thought it would be better to post a new one, since it was pretty long dscription and im new i dont really know if this is ok if there's a problem plz tell me
EMPTY WALLS
"Your empty walls
Your empty walls
Pretentious adventures
Dismissive apprehension
Don't waste your time
On coffins today
When we decline
From the confines of our mind
Don't waste your time
On coffins today
Don't you see their bodies burning
Desolate and full of yearning
Dying of anticipation
Choking from intoxication
Don't you see their bodies burning
Desolate and full of yearning
Dying of anticipation
Choking from intoxication
I want you to be left behind those empty walls
Taught you to see from behind those empty walls
Those empty walls
When we decline
From the confines of our mind
Don't waste your time
On coffins today
Don't you see their bodies burning
Desolate and full of yearning
Dying of anticipation
Choking from intoxication
Don't you see their bodies burning
Desolate and full of yearning
Dying of anticipation
Choking from intoxication
I want you to be left behind those empty walls
Taught you to see from behind those empty walls
Want you to be left behind those empty walls
I taught you to see from behind those empty walls
From behind those empty walls
From behind those empty walls
The walls
From behind those empty walls
I loved you yesterday
Before you killed my family
Don't you see their bodies burning
Desolate and full of yearning
Dying of anticipation
Choking from intoxication
Don't you see their bodies burning
Desolate and full of yearning
Dying of anticipation
Choking from intoxication
I want you to be left behind those empty walls
Taught you to see from behind those empty walls
I want you to be left behind those empty walls
I taught you to see from behind those empty walls
From behind those empty walls
From behind those fucking walls
From behind those god damn walls
Those walls
Those wall"
MEANING
First, basics. What does Empty Walls mean? To me it means Iraq. The "walls" representing Iraq, and they are empty because there is nothing left for us to do there. "Empty Walls".
"Pretentious adventures, dismissive apprehension" Pretentious adventures meaning "over-exaggerated adventures" meaning, it's made to seem like a "big" deal, and we truly need to be over there, but we don't. Dismissive apprehension, meaning fear, and dislike of something, (perhaps terrorists)
"Don't waste your time, on coffins today.." means that we shouldn't be over there again, and being somewhat of a 'protest' statement, saying that we don't have to be getting coffins, if we weren't over there.
"Don't you see their bodies burning..." refers to the heat in Iraq, and perhaps dying as well... "...desolate and full of yearning..." The land there is desolate (once again, empty, meaningless, nothing there)The yearning, is perhaps to go back home. "...dying of anticipation, choking from intoxication" Dying of anticipation, meaning they want to go home, badly, while choking from intoxication could be toxic material over there in iraq? (not sure on this one) or it could simply mean impurity, and injust.
"I want you to be left behind those empty walls" it seems he uses the term 'i want you' on purpose since that the slogan from uncle sam the whole "I want you for the US Army" this way he shows what uncle sam really wants, that is, for you to be left behind.
Again, "I want you to see, what's behind those empty walls" refer to above, there is nothing left for us to do in Iraq.
"I left you yesterday, before you killed my family" Maybe that the soldier left his family yesterday, and was killed? I'm not entirely sure on this one..
The video, also has some meaning in it. As if not obvious, the children represent soldiers. At the beginning we can see the twin towers being represented by the block towers the little girl (representind the US) built. But why children? Because parents always see their kids, grown up, or young, as small children. This was an ingenious way for Serj to put it. Also a small observation, if u compare Serj in this video to Uncle Sam he has the same beard and the same hat except his is black resembling lies, fear, etc....Last, (small meaning) When the children pulled the teddy bear down, it represented the Iraqis pulling down the statue of saddam hussein.
FUCK THE SYSTEM!!! |

| Also, the child with the pointed hat, standing on the block holding the strings (during the bridge of the song) refer to the Abu Gharib tortures. |

Good job. I also think for the video, the children as soldiers mean more than that.
It shows children playing war as a game, and that's how the government it treating it, just like a game. The children are playing war, but right next door, through one wall, is a dead Marine. It shows the reality that it is not a game. It's very real, and right in front of us. |

well, personly me, when i listened to that song first time and when saw clip, i didnt know lyrics still, but i thought this about killing family was about Saddama's family. i just got that impression after they broke doors of his hous in clip and killed him. and broke down his statue. but dont know.
and it is cool meaning. great job. |

| well yes, i agree with that too. but this boy was one who lent plane to crash. and this how they broke in his hous and killed him was just after this statue breaking down. so i just came to that thought. |

| Again, it wasn't too hard since the music video is in correspondence to the meaning of the actual song, but a good interpretation anyways. |

A lot of bands have social and political commentary, but I think our presentation in making it more fun makes it more accessible
