Serj to appear on Wyclef Jean's upcoming release

August 30, 2007 - Wyclef Jean's forthcoming new Columbia Records release, The Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant, will feature a bevy of interesting guest artists.
The album, which is Jean's sixth full-length solo endeavor, picks up on the themes of his 1997 debut effort, Wyclef Jean Presents The Carnival Featuring Refugee All-Stars.
While the first single, "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)," features Akon, Lil' Wayne and Niia, these are not the only high profile guests making appearances throughout the album.

 TRAVEL
“Travel teaches you a lot about the diversity of the world. When musicians talk
about politics we’re often given shit for it’ – and I understand that – but we
do get to travel, which gives us an insight into other cultures. There are
tonnes of places I’ve yet to visit - China, South East China, South America.
Hopefully I can go beyond the places I visited with System. Getting to see
somewhere like Moscow would be great.”
FAMILY
“Being Armenian is like being Italian – family is everything. It’s where you
come from and without knowing where you come from you’re never going to know
where the fuck you’re going. When I’m back home I make a point of going to visit
my parents every Sunday at the very least. The bonds between family members are
the bonds we need to built between each other, in order to make this world a
better place.” |

Interview with Serj Tankian in the Studio

 SYSTEM
OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian has been talking exclusively to
Kerrang! about his forthcoming solo album, ‘Elect The Dead’, due out
late October via Serjical Strike. With System on an extended hiatus for the
foreseeable future, Tankian has been hard at work writing, recording and
producing the record at his home studio in Los Angeles.
“It’s definitely a rock record,” explains Tankian in between putting the final
touches to the album mix. “It’s a moving album with lots of up’s and down,
starts and stops and tempo changes. It’s depressing but it’s uplifting, it’s
jazzy but it rocks. Making it felt similar to making the first System record – I
felt the exact same energy, that sense of open experimentation, the idea that
‘Wow, I’m actually doing this…’ I was living, eating and shitting this music
every day. I’d wake up in the morning and the thought of working on a song was
so powerful I couldn’t focus on anything else.” |
