Band Pulls No Punches With The Pummeling Mezmerize
|

Mtv Report: At 37 minutes, Mezmerize, the first half of the forthcoming double album from heavy mental quartet System of a Down, is the band's most punctual outing. But somehow, the group manages to cram in what feels like three albums' worth of chaotic riffing, thunderous double-bass-drum blasts, operatic crooning, growling death roars and blazing accordion — yes, accordion — into the LP's 11 songs.
Perhaps System's tightest and most intense material to date, Mezmerize which comes out on May 17 — is loaded with breakneck, Slayeresque riffs and a complex sense of melody that's reminiscent of Faith No More. Fans will probably be jazzed to hear that the album recalls the band's 1998 self-titled debut more often than the less frenzied Toxicity — anyone concerned that songs like the lighter "Aerials" and Toxicity's title track signaled a weakening of the group's sound, fear not. |

Kerrang Magazine Secret London concert review!

Kerrang rated ASTORIA Concert as kkk (great) and wrote this good review titled :
EVE OF DESTRUCTION - System of a down Up for "Mesmerize" With explosive London show !
MOST NIGHTS, if System of a Down were any tighter as a unit they'd collapse into a quantum singularity- just not this night. They're missing cues, stumbling over choruses, and at times fucking about as if a mate's parents are away for the weekend and they just turned up to play an impromptu house party.
Only this 'secret' gig has sold out the Astoria without any advertising, it should be noted. And judging by 2,000 bobbing heads- including that of body-guarded NIN front man "Trent Reznor" in the venue's upper VIP area - no- one's complaining about the lack of precision. |

System of a Down has just gotten themselves on the cover of another magazine.
Over on Malakians' coffee table, a stack of notebook pages covered in the guitarist's scrawl offers proof that he's been extremely busy, indeed.
Each piece of paper lists a different track order for the forthcoming Hypnotize/Mezmerize (Columbia), the first System of a Down record since 2002's Platinum Steal This Album. As he did with all of SOAD's previous albums-Steal, 2001's Toxicity, and 1998's self titled debut-Malakian has spent countless hours trying to compile the perfect song sequence for Hypnotize/Mezmerize.
But it's managed to elude him thus far, and the fact that Hypnotize/Mezmerize happens to be a double album makes his task all the more frustrating. "It's driving me up the wall," he admits. |
