System of A Down interested in Eurovision 2009 ?! |

After
Armenia received its best result ever this year with Sirusho, the world-famous
rock band System of a Down shown a keen interest in representing the
country in Russia next year.
However, the soloist of the American band, Serj Tankian, has openly
stated in a recent visit in Finland that this will be under one condition: if
they will be able to use Eurovision as a way to make the much-debated Armenian
Genocide issue known. "Esc would be an excellent way to make this theme known.
We must seriously think of this." said Tankian in response to a question posed
by Finnish News Agency.
System of a Down is very politically active and are noted for the liberal
political views expressed in their songs, tackling myriad subjects including the
War on Drugs, religion, drug use, and especially censorship. They have actively
campaigned to get Turkey to recognize the controversial Armenian Genocide and
the subject is often-tackled in their songs. They are also a part of the Axis of
Justice, a non-profit political activist organization fighting for recognition
of the polemical issue, believed to have taken part in the early 20th century.
Ironically, the band has many Turkish fans as well.
Previously similar themes have been tried at Eurovision with mixed success. In
1976 Greece sent the song Panaghia mou, Panaghia mou about the invasion of
Cyprus, in 1993 Bosnia-Herzegovina performed Sva bol svijeta about the war in
the region, and it is also believed by experts that the 1996 United Kingdom
entry Ohh Ahh Just a little bit also has a hidden message about genocide.
With previous song titles such as Violent Pornography, This Cocaine Makes Me
Feel Like I'm On This Song, Peephole and Fuck the System, System of a Down would
perhaps be censored by the EBU rule about bad language that previously forced
Silvia Night to officially change the lyrics of her song, while the EBU would
probably choose to believe the political message was a reference to ancient
Armenian bedtime stories or an ending relationship.

Eurovision is just sad. People who watch Eurovision doesn't take stuff seriously. If Serj would sing in english about some serious shit and talk about the armenian genocide, people at home (people who actually watch the garbage that is EV) would go "nice beat lol catchy song"

Hehe, I hope that Serj was joking! xD No, honestly, I can't imagine SOAD in Eurovision. Every year the music presented there is worse. Sometimes it's funny but Eurovision is just a rubbish... When I saw this topic I just couldn't believe my eyes and... I'm still laughing right now! xD I'd piss my pants if it saw SOAD on Eurovision. But... you never know ;-)

guys, quit being so pesimistic, system of a down is still a band, they're not "broken up" and plus if they decide to play together, it doesnt mean that they're officially back, they ciould maybe choose to play together, and then after go they're seperate ways again. System of a Down is much more then a band, it's a means of communication to the world. Can someone explain to me why playing in eurovision "is not cool" cause i dont know anything about this eurovision. as fas as i know if soad reunited., even if its for one show, I woulda shit myself in joy :)

WOW I CANT BELIEVE THAT REAL MUSIC FINALLY CAN BE SEEN IN ESC!!!!!!! i have always had this dream that some other wrote erlier, SOAD playing for Armenia. for me who live in sweden, i will call and vote for them xxxxxx times. but in the meantime, this is only what serj thinks about ESC. i doubt that daron would be intrested, it could be the end of the group. i really fear so :/ but serj, with his more melodic songs can more easy reach the audience. and u know that theres not allowed to sing about politics in ESC. at least what i heave heard from Swedens ESC. btw is the article fake?

I canīt imagine SOAD in Eurovision. Iīve seen lots of Eurovisions and either SOB and SOAD donīt fit at all. Its for bands who wanna make sth from their lifes, for their future. SOAD, SOB, Serj and Achozen - they had it and have it by now. They donīt have to do this kind of "singing" anymore. SOAD - get back one day. Whenever. Donīt care. But please, NO Eurovision!!! You are great and important to me as you are now. LUV YA!!!

The article is not fake by anymeans... Serj was just brainstorming with what he was saying, but nothing confirmed, its just an idea and I really highly doubt it will happen.. unless Serj will do it by himself alone as a solo artist

^yeh. but if Serj confirmes that i'll drown myself. that would be end of his cred.. EV winners and some of the other competitiors will have a very short mass publicity (in this case all the 'fans' are 5-13 years old kids who doesn't know barely anything of music) then if you say you are a fan of that band/artist people think that you are empty head who likes mass music. after that boom the bands/artists are known as EV competitiors. i would continue if my english 'skills' wasn't this unsubstantial :D

Oh nooo, I really hope this never happens. That stupid contest has nothing to do with music! It's a stupid freak show for untalented asses. So definitely not the place for our SOAD guys. It would ruin their carreers (and my respect for them as well, I'm afraid).

I am armenian and I can imagine how cool it can be for Armenia to have Serj or SOAD in Eurovision. But I hope that it will never happen! We all know how much The System Of A Down did for Armenia and for recognition of Armenian genocide and of course the Eurovision is one of the best ways to be heard by all european people but the System and Serj are too good for Eurovision. Guys you have your own power and much more reputation to change the world and make it better !!!!!!
