Serj Tankian Urges Fans to Turn Up the Heat on KFC |

Still
riding the wave of success of his album Elect the Dead and
busier than ever with his new solo career since System of a Down went on hiatus,
vocalist Serj Tankian recently took time out of his hectic
touring and recording schedule to stick it to the Colonel--KFC's Colonel
Sanders, that is.
The political activist and Grammy Award winner has teamed up
with his pals at peta2--the world's largest youth animal rights
organization--and signed the group's petition to KFC at peta2.com,
and Tankian is asking his legions of devoted fans to do the same.
Tankian urges KFC to "improve the lives of" chickens who "suffer from
extremely crowded conditions, crippling bone and joint problems resulting from
top-heavy breeding, callous handling, inhumane slaughter techniques, and
shortened life spans." The nearly 1 billion chickens raised and killed for KFC
every year have their sensitive beaks cut off, and the birds are drugged and
bred to grow so large that many become crippled from the weight of their massive
upper bodies.

Tankian joins an ever-growing list of musicians--including Fall Out
Boy, Rise Against, Scary Kids
Scaring Kids, and Pink--that have teamed up
with peta2 to speak out against KFC's suppliers' cruel treatment of chickens.
Also featured on peta2.com are celebrity interviews, message boards,
merchandise, downloadable voice-mail recordings, and chances to win great prizes
like free concert tickets, iPods, and more.
"Serj knows that kids are fed up with cruel, outdated attitudes about animals
and that kids are not going to stand for it," says peta2 Assistant Director of
Youth Campaigns Dan Shannon. "After all, if KFC executives treated cats or dogs
the way their suppliers treat chickens, they'd be hit with cruelty-to-animals
charges."
For more information and to sign the petition, please visit

Hah, no way in hell I'll touch anything with PETA on it. Serj can do wtf he wants, but I can't support this.

so am i to understand that one should not be allowed to ally themselves with PETA for a good cause because of other things they do? the fact is PETA his more heavily criticised by other animal rights groups because it is "too soft" on the issues this is a good cause, why should it not be supported because it is PETA? that's a pretty pathetic way to look at things although i never said that PETA was great, im pretty indifferent to them. i meant that the issue of animal rights/welfare is a valid one, and the fact that these very issues deal with some of the biggest problems in the world today, such as global warming, deforestation, viruses and diseases potential fatal to humanity (mad cow disease and avian flu)

Chicken's are made to be eaten. And I'm hungry as hell. It is easy for Serj to sign a petition like this, he's vegetarian.

peta to soft? please, they would probally do a suicide bombing in protest of something. i doubt KFC will change its ways because a bunch a vegans and vegetarians that dont eat there anyway will sign a petition and 'protest' KFC. im sorry, but slaughterhhouse animals arent exactly going to get the spa treatment. KFC dosent care about the animals they kill. why should i not sign somethime because its associated with peta? because i dont agree with lots of the things peta likes to do, and do not wish to be associated with peta. besides, being a veg, i dont go to KFC anyway, so its not like im helping kill those chickens.

all you fucking morons who are for PETA are IDIOTS! dont get me wrong, im completely against animal cruelty and think it should be stopped, but PETA does it all wrong. i agree with what rainbows_are_gay said. Do you people know that PETA are terrorist? They are listed as a terrorist organization by the government for car bombs, arson, death threats, property damage and countless assaults. They also support other terrorist groups like ALF and ELF. They steal abused animals and then do what with them? They kill them and stick em in a freezer or throw them in a dumpster. They're hypocritical. You know what else they do? They prey on young innocent children by showing graphic pictures and saying stuff like "Your parents kill animals". Im all for animal rights, but not the way PETA does it. FUCK PETA

Don't lose respect for Serj, Jizzlobber. I think Serj has been signing petitions for Peta for a couple of years now, so it's nothing new. But this time Peta made an article on him signing the petition so that Peta can drow Serj's fans and System Of A Down fans. I don't think Serj was asking to be poster boy here. I think Serj just only wanted to sign the petiton. I am not a Peta supporter. But I respect what Serj wants to do.

Hmmm, the fact that Serj would advocate something so controversial that I thought people wouldn't care give two shits about while simultaneously alienating a portion of his fanbase... I think he is a beautiful human being, not just appearance wise either. I do think that since the chickens are going to die anyway what does it matter. But then again, they should at least go about this business in a cleaner way. The way things are theres a larger chance of disease being spread by keeping the chickens in close. cramped quarters. But, contrary to what Rainbows said, I do eat chickens, and by signing this petition I'd be a hypocrite. Although I hardly eat at KFC cause their chicken prices are so high, so fuck them anyway....

I'll sign it for Serj. I'm not a sheep. If it was a peition for some pro-choice group, I'd pass. Even if PETA has a history of violence, Serj doesn't and I respect the fact that he just wants to help. More power to him.
