As soon as I heard that Scars on Broadway would be playing with Metallica, I
knew that I had to be there. I bought tickets the second they went on sale and
patiently waited until the show came around.I got off work early and made my
way to the Wiltern. Thinking I was early, I didn't rush too much. When I got
there, I saw that the line went around the corner about a block and thought,
"man, there's no way i'm getting close to the front this time." I waited for
about an hour for the doors to open, in the meantime I talked with a few other
fans and saw cigarosmoker, who's a member on this site.
That was pretty cool, we
talked for a bit then walked in together. He and his friend had seats in the
upper section, and we split up and I tried to get as close as possible. I ended
up right behind the pit in the "second pit," which was a lot crazier than the
first one. I told a few Metallica fans that Scars were awesome, but they weren't
really paying too much attention.
After waiting for a little while more, Scars came on stage and started playing
the same set as the other shows. The only differences were that they slowed the
tempo of a few songs down and everything was done better.
I really enjoyed the
music more than the other two times, and that's saying something because the
[Whisky show] and [Coachella] were both amazing.
My favorite songs by far were
"Universe" and "Cute Machines." I really loved the melodies in "Universe." Both
guitars, the keys, and the drums sounded amazing. Daron seemed really happy to
be on stage.
During "Enemy/Drugs" he said "I like drugs, and I like Metallica
too!" I thought that was pretty cool. Overall, Scars was awesome again, and a
lot of the Metallica fans thought they were good too, which I found surprising.
After another ridiculously long wait, Metallica came on and played their set. It
was really cool seeing them for the first time. They played a lot of songs that
I love. The only thing wrong with them was that they messed up a few times, very
noticeably during "One," which is my favorite song by them. I honestly feel like
Scars outplayed them, even though the Scars set was much shorter. It was a
really fun night overall, well worth the price of admission.
