fjayRLS, dude, you speak my language, man. God, i feel like such a fucking idiot when i try to describe those kinds of things to my friends. It's not about the music, it's about the emotion!!! Okay, so that's not all true. Of course technical proficiancy and musical talent matter (and SOAd has them in abundance too) but what really makes good music is the EMOTION. If you don't have that, you've got nothing, man! Soad are able to channel their emotions into their instruments and music, and that's what i thrive on. That's why i love them so much, everything aobut them. They are not afraid to be pure, and to release their music exactly the way they feel it, unchanged. THat's why Serj's lyrics sometimes say stuff like bannana terra cotta pie or i wanna fuck my way to the garden. because he didn''t write that stuff down and say "no this is shit im not going to use this because it doesnt make sense and other people wont like it and blah blah blah" he's (and daron) are not afraid to put their lyrics out there in the first and purest form they write them in. that's why id like much more to hear 'my cock is much bigger than yours, my shit stinks right back through the floor" than anything fall out boy or whatever come up with about seccond sex and cheating on your mothers girlfriend or whatever. actually... im sorry for that last comment. im sure there must be some people here who like fall out boy, and i do not want to offend them or anything... especially not on a site with anything to do with serj tanakian whose whole existance is about promoting peace :) besides, were all friends here, arent we? were all united under one thing... an undying and insane love for system of a down and all its members. and that is a solid enough brotherhood for me!

now on the actuall topic ... lol ... i agree that john definitely deserved it, although there are other awesome drummers playing today, you've just got to search hard. i think there are a few others deserving of the title (Scott Phillips of Alter Bridge and Riley Breckenridge of Thrice to name two) but John Dolmayan is definitely one of my favorite drummers of all time. i remember when i first bought toxicity i did not know music at all. i was the kind of guy who listened to whatever was popular but i heard ariels on the radio which became the beginning of my changing. i thought hey this song is okay maybe i should get the album. so i looked it up and bought toxicity, and when i first heard prison song i listened to about 30 seconds and then turned it off, disgusted. i thought they really sucked balls. but after a while of listening to just ariels and chop suey i decided to explore the rest of the album, and at the end i thought 'man this stuff sucks these guys have like no talent at all although... that drumming was pretty good. actually, really good, i might listen to it again.' and then i started to warm up to them, starting with serj then shavo and daron and finally the songs themselves. but even back then, in my immense ignorance, i recognized john's incredible drumming, and felt his channeled emotions, even though i did not really know quite how to recieve them or what they were at that time. improved? i don't know if he's improved from their self titled to hypnotize, but he has most definietly changed, as has the rest of the band. personally, i generally like systems earlier music more than their latter stuff. i believe that once you get to a certain level of musicianship as John has, there really isnt any more improvement in the previous sense, just change of style. however, not many musicians reach that level, and spend a ton of time striving for improvement. aaaaaand................. i just lost my train of thought. god, this is pretty long. oh well. long live system!!!!!!!!!!!!
