Daron Preps New Band!? |

Of A Down's post-Ozzfest life will include a new band for guitarist Daron
Malakian. The artist is in the process of forming and writing songs for Scars On
Broadway, which will start operating in earnest once Ozzfest wraps in
mid-August. The band is shooting to have its debut album out in the summer of
2007.
"I'm still kind of getting the whole band together at this point," reports
Malakian, "After I get back home from Ozzfest
that's pretty much what I'll be focusing on.
"I think a System fan will be able to relate to the music, but there's a few
different directions I want to take, whether it be a little bit more ethnic or
sometimes electronic," he adds. "There's just a few artistic directions I want
to take with Scars that I haven't taken with System yet."
Malakian says that so far he's brought in a drummer/percussionist to be part of
the band and says that SOAD bassist Shavo Odadjian will likely join as well.

The new band does not mean SOAD will be splitting up. But after 10-plus years of
constant work -- including last year's pair of chart-topping albums, "Mezmerize"
and "Hypnotize" -- Malakian says the group does plan to take a lengthy break.
"People are just gonna assume that we're breaking up, but we're not calling it
that," he explains. "We just want to go off and do a few other things. If we
were breaking up we wouldn't be able to get on stage together for this tour."
SOAD is about to begin rehearsals for Ozzfest, which kicks off June 29 in
Seattle [Check the Tour dates]. The quartet will be
headlining most of the shows in place of Ozzy Osbourne, who will only play on 10
dates this summer. Malakian says his band is feeling the weight of that role.
"There's something about having history along with the music," he notes, "and
Ozzy and Black Sabbath have been around over 30 years with people growing up
listening to them. There's a history and a connection with people. System isn't
a brand new band but we're not 30 years old, either. So it brings a lot of
pressure to come through and bring something to the table that hopefully will
keep up with that."

All these side projects make me really nervous.But you know what?Maybe they are a band like Iron Maiden.They have their solo carrers but they are in the band too.I hope so!

Well i am kinda pissed that system is taking a break but asslong as it is not a break ^........................and im pretty sure that darons new group will be pretty freakin awesome!!!!!!!

system is my life and if they ever broke up i would probably commit suicide but if daron says its just a break then i believe him and trust him and he better be right.!!!!

Good morning! At least in Austria it's morning right now. Do you know what? Tomorrow the Nova Rock festival 2006 starts and I can't wait. Last year, SOAD came there and it was one of the best days of my life. I am gonna see some awesome bands this year as well. Metallica, Tool, Opeth, Live, Alice'n Chains etc. Still, I wish soad were here this year again...I love them so incredibly and they just can't brak up. If they love their fans at least a little bit, they know that they must come back. "Good luck to my cuties whatever they wanna do! John, I love you!!!!!!!"

I wouldn't want to see them break up. Of course not. However, they didn't say they were, so we shouldn't worry too much. Btw... Isn't John engaged? Maybe he'll get married and start a family during the break. Aww... That'd be so cute! They do have personal lives y'know...

Hmm, I think this new band sounds really interesting. And I totally understand if SOAD wants to take a break after all these years as a band, I mean in SOAD they probably play classic songs like "Chop Suey", "Sugar" and "Aerials" all the time, and I think they want to do something different so that they don't get bored and make the songs sound really bad onstage.. Not that they do, but my point is that I don't want SOAD to get bored about their music.. And another thing, CAN'T SOME OF U GUYS READ??? They are NOT breaking up, how many times do you have to hear it???

Hold it.... John is engaged? Can someone get some info on that? I live in Vegas and might be able to catch him somewhere. Unless of course he moved away... but he didn't, did he? Anywho if I'm going to find him it's during the Hiatus after the Ozzfest. If you people have any info plz tell me! (Like a phone number? Can someone help me get a phone number? Or an addreess... heheheh... Living in Vegas is fun. Does he even have a phone? He doesn't have internet.)
