System won a HIGH TIMES' music awards! |

 HIGH
TIMES' music awards are back!. This year's winners are Damian Marley (pictured on
the cover), System of a Down, Sean Paul, String Cheese Incident, Ying
Yang Twins, Bonnaroo and, yes, the Kottonmouth Kings!
Down at the crossroads of music and marijuana, great things are known to happen.
Toke a joint and new lyrics flow effortlessly. Inhale a hit and a song pours out
like syrup onto pancakes.
Bill Hicks nailed it when he said that all the Beatles’ music was created under
the influence of drugs. He joked that they had to pull Ringo off the ceiling
when they wrote “Yellow Submarine.”
For years, we’ve cataloged marijuana music in the pages of HIGH TIMES. Not only
do musicians write better stoned, but readers also enjoy listening better high.
It’s that simple !!
On Sept. 6, 2000, we hosted the Doobies, our first-ever awards show
celebrating marijuana in music. At New York’s now-defunct jam-band joint
Wetlands Preserve, the Kottonmouth Kings were named Band of the Year and
performed on a bill that included Dope, Charlie Hunter, David Peel, Atomic
Bitchwax and the Cannabis Cup Band. A fully inebriated Jackie (the Joke Man)
Martling emceed the five-hour Doobies marathon.
We scheduled the 2nd Annual Doobies for Sept.12, 2001. That show never took
place—we all know what happened on the morning of Sept. 11. We gave out awards
to winners whenever they came through New York City during that devastating fall
and winter.
With Wetlands’ doors shuttered, we moved the 3rd Annual Doobies uptown to our
new awards-show home at BB King’s in Times Square. On Sept. 25, 2002, Fear
Factor’s Joe Rogan hosted a show that saw performances by Sean Paul, High on
Fire, Black Moon, Lettuce, the Cannabis Cup Band and a reunion of the New Riders
of the Purple Sage. One of the highlights that night was Dave Chappelle
presenting Pot Song of the Year to Paul for “Gimme the Light.”
With this issue, the Doobies returns as an awards presentation in the pages of
HIGH TIMES. Next year, we’ll once again stage a full-fledged awards show.

man just legalize the shit . And I can promise you that kids don't try it out and then get "stuck in the sky" ! Look at Holland there it is legal and I don't think people do drugs there more than anywhere else... maybe less. HAHA love the picture Shavo and Daron are STONED! ^^ Serj is just.. cofeeish and John like... "Oh man what am I doin here" :P

I think awards like this are really silly. Attack, you are quite right when it comes to numbers of weed smokers in Holland. It IS less than in most other countries where it's not (semi) legal. I'm all for FULL soft drug legalisation everywhere.

Legalization of marijuana is my dream! I hope it happens sometime soon. People shouldn't have to be sneaky about it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Everything about it is great.. Its amazing! SOAD rules. LEGALIZE POT!!!!

weed rules... and they should legalize it for shure... but as serj once said theyre not going to coz its one of natures beauties and u can grow it yourself so theres no money for the government in it :( bastards... but i think eventually theyll have to legalize it :D

they're toasted i wonder why their mj is always so shiney ... ive never seen pot like that.. is always darker or even purple and red ... not grass green... :( whatever im not a smoker anyways,,,

As a relatively new fan, I didn't know SOAD smoked pot... I mean, I thought maybe they did, but I kept hoping maybe not... I guess I'm naive, but this makes me so sad! :-( I've never been and will never get high, but the music still sounds amazing to me! Go above the influence!

I don't like drugs but if hey smoke pot sometimes , then its okay to me. Just dont do like many others and kill yourself guys! But the just smoking shit.. they dont do that ... "hard" drugs if you know what I mean.
