A Complete shock and surprise hit the Scars on Broadway's fans, all over the
world and especially in the North America, when the band did surprisingly
canceled their North America tour, 28 show (including a live appearance on Jimmy
Kimmel Show) should have performed starting October 19 to November the 26th were
all cancelled.
The cancellation announcement been posted on myspace and then the official
website October 06, 2008, did not state clear reason for this apart from that "Daron's
heart wasn't into touring at this time"
A mix of disappointment, angry and frustration have been showed by the fans
through their messages on myspace or discussions on SOADFans' forum.
A day after the announcement, October 07, Daron sent a message to the fan,
through scars' myspace, said the following:
|
A Message From
Daron
I've read many of your postings and I owe it to all of you to
respond:
I understand all of your frustration and anger, and I never meant to
let any of you down. Your support for Scars has been so important to
me and the band. I would never cancel a tour unless I had real
reasons and personal things that require my undivided attention. The
music of Scars will live on, but now is a time when aspects of my
life need to be tended to. I hope all of you can understand.
- Daron |
And continuing
to the messages/letters for the fans wave, Frany Perez, through his myspace,
sent a letter to the fans concerning the cancellation:
|
Letter to the Fans
from Franky
I know the news has been extremely shocking to all of you. However,
I know that Daron has compelling reasons to not continue with the
tour at this time. I wanted to take the time to thank him and John
for giving me such an incredible opportunity to do what I love and
to be a part of an amazing band with undeniable talent. They are
like brothers to me and with time our band became like family which
made the news even harder to swallow. I also want to thank the fans
from all over the world for all of your support and for welcoming us
with open arms. I hope you will continue supporting us no matter
where this journey leads us. Each member of Scars has a deep love
and passion for music that will never die. With that said…this is
not a goodbye, but a see you later.
All the best, Franky

A massive controversy about the specific personal
reasons behind this shocking decision which led to create big number of
rumors about it but
a forum moderator on the Scars on Broadway's official website did state some
fact to deny some of these rumors:
|
Some other facts from the 'inside' that I was given permission to
disclose, in no particular order:
1. Daron is physically okay. There were some rumors about him having throat
cancer and some other things like that. ALL FALSE.
2. Opinions and rumors about Daron's drug use, going to rehab, and all related
things are wholly UNTRUE. Daron did not cancel the tour on some whim or out of
some selfish need to fuck around at Disneyland or because he can't stop smoking
weed or any other such nonsense.
3. There IS a personal issue that Daron is dealing with right now that is at the
root of the tour cancellation. His message to the fans already summed this up in
a purposefully vague kind of way. This issue was not disclosed to me and will
not be disclosed to anyone outside the band because it is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS." |
blabbermouth.com did assume one of the reason for canelltion would be
the low sales of Scars album comparing to Serj's Elect the Dead as stated
below:
SCARS ON BROADWAY sold just under 24,000 copies of its self-titled debut album
in the United States during its first week of release to debut at position No.
17 on The Billboard 200 chart. This number represented roughly 36 percent of the
66,000 opening tally registered by "Elect the Dead", the debut solo effort from
SYSTEM lead singer Serj Tankian, which came out last fall through the Warner
Music Group.
"Scars On Broadway" has shifted just 58,000 copies in the United States since
its July 29 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Elect the Dead",
meanwhile, is closing in on 300,000 units sold in the U.S. so far.
Although there's no such official statement, but it
seems that Daron did cancel due personal reasons, not because health issue
nor conflict with the management or the record company. Also the rumor says
the band did breakup is not true (at least not officially confirmed), but
one thing for sure, Daron will be back soon.

funny(no pun intended) the main rumour of the biggest reason scars cancled is a system reunion which hasnt been denied(that im aware of)by the moderator or franky. we live in hope *crosses fingers*

first i tought his father, mom or someone other like that has died, now i think that he haves some kind of mental disturbance, like psychosis or depression. I really hope that none of this have happened or anything else that bad or worse...

Well, good thing I didn't buy a ticket. I am rather disappointed, though. I wish Daron would have told us why. It'd sure as hell quell everyone's anger. Including mine. I'm sorry, but, first System disbands, and then I miss Serj, and NOW SOB is cancelled. Fuckfuckfuck. Nice.

The same thing happened to me haha. I never got a chance to see System while they were together, I tried to see Serj, but the show was sold out, and now I was supposed to see Scars the day before my birthday and now the entire tour gets canceled. Life hates me.

This is bullshit no way Daron would've canceled the Tour just because of "low sales",there is a great difference between Scars on Broadway and Serj Tankian and we all understand it,who the heck doesn't know who Serj Tankian is ?But NOT EVERYONE knows who Scars on Broadway are,if the band was called Daron Malakian and friends then we would see about the sales, but there is lots of people that don't even understand English, that are fans of SOAD,they could easily recognize Serj, but not Daron in SOB,so comparing the sales between SOB and Serj Tankiang is FUCKING STUPID. Whoever spread out that rumour GO FUCK YOURSELF!

Just an addition : I was myself a bit disappointed about the tour, who wouldn't we haven't seen Daron for so long, but look at it from his point of view,do you think he is not suffering from this bullshit ?Do you think it's just fucking easy to go and cancel the tour ?And all this bullshit around the internet and rumors do not make his life fucking easier..

I just hope that whatever made him cancel the tour is resolved soon, so that we can all enjoy the Daron we all know and love again! ...and on a more selfish note, I hope that when he decides to try an American tour again, he'll be smart and get his ass to South Florida.

Daron probly needs some space because he is constanly writing music for the fans and fans keep coming up to him so I think he wants to relax before anything big happens! But I hope things are sorted and everything can be continued and if we are luky he would want to get back together with System (of a Down)!
