Achozen in the Studio, early 2008 - photos by greg watermannShavo Odadjian doesn't want you to just listen to his music; he wants you to see it. The Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist is far from your average musician.

Shavo's songs range from schizophrenically catchy metal to introspective spacey hip hop to bass heavy mind-altering electronic broken tech beats. While in System of a Down, he crafted some of the most infectious, poignant and popular heavy metal tunes of the 21st century. The band became a worldwide sensation with five multi-platinum records, gained critical acclaim universally and sold out gigs everywhere. In 2006, System began a hiatus, but that didn't stop Shavo from creating.

He joined longtime friend The RZA (Wu-Tang Clan) and started Achozen, a philosophical cosmic rap crew that's destined to shift perspectives once their debut drops in late 2008. In addition to their work on Achozen, Shavo and RZA also have begun working on film scores together. Their first movie, BabylonA.D. saw them collaborate with legendary composer Hans Zimmer on a score that's haunting, moving and alive. The Vin Diesel sci-fi epic hits theaters in late August, and Shavo and RZA's score propels the action.

Shavo also utilized his talents to start urSESSION.com, his own online record label and musician's networking destination. The site is the first ever to allow for video auditioning, and the concept has garnered it a massive following already. Across the board, Shavo remains an innovator. He's made and continues to create thought-provoking music, and with his business ideas, he's about to turn the whole industry upside down. On stage with Achozen and System of a Down, he captures a vibrant energy. He thrashes about and plays with every inch of his soul. That intensity spills over into his creative process as well.

His energy has attracted everyone from the Wu-Tang Clan and George Clinton to John Frusciante for collaborations. Not to mention his wax-flipping, unconventional yet classy DJ/noise contortionist alter ego, Tactics, which will be revealing its many faces and personae very soon. Shavo weaves an aural tapestry of smooth as ice grooves, cybernetic beats and frenetic riffs. His music is an experience in each and every facet. Beyond music, Shavo's a born filmmaker. He directed some of System of a Down's most captivating videos, including "Toxicity," "Aerials," "Question!" and "Hypnotize."

He also edited System's incendiary video for "Boom!" alongside documentarian Michael Moore. Shavo's cinematic sensibility possesses an honest urgency channeled through ethereal concepts, fast-paced editing and seamless narrative progression. In addition, he helmed "Give Thanks and Praise" for reggae hardcore legends The Bad Brains and "Mine" for hard rock mainstays Taproot. Beyond directing, Shavo has begun writing a script through a collaborative effort with his screenwriting partner.

Shavo also spends time painting intensely vibrant abstract portraits that mirror his eclectic sense of art. Ultimately, Shavo's art is not only meant to be seen and heard, it's meant to be remembered. There's no doubt it will be for a very long time
