Alternative
Press (AP) have chosen Daron Malakian as Musician Of The Month.
They also had little interview including some advises Daron would like to give
for new musicians.
What's your first musical memory?
My earliest recollection is when I was years old, and I remember that music was
already something that was part of me. A few years later, when I was 6 or 7,
instead of making my mom take me to the toy store, I'd make her take me to the
record store. it was just something that was in my blood.
I don't want to sound cliché, but it really was something that was always there
for me. it picked me; I didn't pick music.
How did you get exposed to heavier music?
Growing up as a little kid in the '80s, the first record my mom ever bought me
was Def Leppard's Pyromania. But I also had some older cousins who were
into dance music and Depeche Mode and stuff like that, so I got into a lot of
that, too. I think heavy music is something that caters to my insides and
scratched that itch for me.
LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES
" Try to listen to as much music as possible because for us as musicians, it's
like reading a book -- and you couldn't go and do surgery without having the
knowledge and background of the people who came before you. it's so essential to
understand how things broke from the blues to rock in the '50s to punk and
metal.
It's just really important to me to know the roots of all this music we have now
and understand the process of how we got to where we are today." - Daron
