Serj Tankian Urges Fans to Turn Up the Heat on KFC |

Still
riding the wave of success of his album Elect the Dead and
busier than ever with his new solo career since System of a Down went on hiatus,
vocalist Serj Tankian recently took time out of his hectic
touring and recording schedule to stick it to the Colonel--KFC's Colonel
Sanders, that is.
The political activist and Grammy Award winner has teamed up
with his pals at peta2--the world's largest youth animal rights
organization--and signed the group's petition to KFC at peta2.com,
and Tankian is asking his legions of devoted fans to do the same.
Tankian urges KFC to "improve the lives of" chickens who "suffer from
extremely crowded conditions, crippling bone and joint problems resulting from
top-heavy breeding, callous handling, inhumane slaughter techniques, and
shortened life spans." The nearly 1 billion chickens raised and killed for KFC
every year have their sensitive beaks cut off, and the birds are drugged and
bred to grow so large that many become crippled from the weight of their massive
upper bodies.

Tankian joins an ever-growing list of musicians--including Fall Out
Boy, Rise Against, Scary Kids
Scaring Kids, and Pink--that have teamed up
with peta2 to speak out against KFC's suppliers' cruel treatment of chickens.
Also featured on peta2.com are celebrity interviews, message boards,
merchandise, downloadable voice-mail recordings, and chances to win great prizes
like free concert tickets, iPods, and more.
"Serj knows that kids are fed up with cruel, outdated attitudes about animals
and that kids are not going to stand for it," says peta2 Assistant Director of
Youth Campaigns Dan Shannon. "After all, if KFC executives treated cats or dogs
the way their suppliers treat chickens, they'd be hit with cruelty-to-animals
charges."
For more information and to sign the petition, please visit

PETA sucks, he continues to lose my respect, etc. I like what he's trying to do, but he's a GOD DAMN IDIOT for teaming with PETA. Seriously. In the mean time, this reminded me that I haven't had fried chicken in a while, so om nom nom.

^whata bunch of wankers you lot are cool internet kids seem to think there's something wrong with PETA and you talk about bigger problems than animals, well if the whole world went vegetarian greenhouse gases would be reduced by well over half since cows produce more CO2 than humans (cars, factories etc) and there would never be so many cows if there werent ridiculous corporations breeding them in some insane matrix style factories, not to mention the processing and travelling that creates obscene amounts of pollution ASWELL as the amount of rainforest cut down everyday so people like McDonalds can have cheap grazing land for cows and chickens bunch of ignorant c*nts, who the hell wants your respect? pathetic i would punch you in the face if you were here just for trying to be some smart arse wanker what happened to SOADfas i thought it was full of enlightened individuals? i mean even rightwinger was atleast intelligent, even if i do disagree with evrything he said

i agree with partisan_3 i hate animal cruelty full stop, people who are saying there are bigger problems in the world can shut it, because those "bigger problems" will never be bloody solved anyway. I want wars to stop, and people to stop killing innocent people, BLAH BLAH. its never going to happen. But things can be done to stop animals from being tortured like this. I also agree about the expectations of other Soadfans. I joined here because i thought that everyone was on the same basic wavelength, and we could all have intelligent conversations and discussions. If this is what Soad breaking up has done to you bastards then im changing my mind and i hope they get back together now... :(

Sorry, I honestly don't agree with PETA. I think they're extremists. Good for Serj if he wants to do this, but I will not back this.

LOL Partisan, don't get your panties in a bunch. Tell me, oh wise one, what's so GREAT about PETA? Aside from the fact that they obviously filled your head with their propaganda.

SOAD's little break-up has absolutely nothing to do with this. At all. The hell do they have to do with GOD DAMN CHICKENS? Nothing. And believe me, I'm all for animal rights. But, I have three words: Fuck the PETA.

Jizzlobber: i wasnt f*ckin saying that Soad breaking up was to do with chickens geez, i was commenting on how Soadfans is going down hill after the split. I think a lot of people who are saying that this is bullsh*t would probably have signed this petition a couple of years ago, if all of Soad signed it. Coz thats what SHEEP do. im signing it now, and i know i would have signed if back then, even if i hated PETA as passionately as you all do...

^But just because we're SOAD fans it doesn't mean we all have to believe and fight for the same things. I love most things the band members do, but I simply can't support this. Why would you sign it if you hated PETA? Isn't THAT being a sheep?

Voodoo is right. I don't have to agree with everything Serj or Daron or ANYONE who has ever been on this site thinks. Because I have my own opinions, different sources, and won't blindly follow a celebrity. That's a sheep.

hey partisan_3, get over yourself. im veg, but i cannot stand PeTA. did you know they bought a HUMONGOUS walk in freezer to store the animals they stolen and killed. peta hurts more animals than micheal vick. also, they are extremists who try to impose there views on others. "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a group that complains bitterly when animals die accidentally in horse races or intentionally in slaughterhouses, killed more than 90 percent of the adoptable animals in its care during 2007. " PETA claims to be dedicated to protecting animals and treating them "ethically"—it’s right there in the group’s name. But killing animals that could otherwise be placed in adoptive homes isn’t terribly ethical, especially for a group whose $30 million annual income is more than enough to do the right thing instead. ethical? pft. sorry. not very ethical if you ask me.
