First Serj Tankian Show Review - Chicago Show Oct. 12 |

I
just got home from Serj's first Elect the Dead concert....Wow....holy
fuck, that was easily the bens tonight of my life.
We stood in line for a good two hours, holding my "SOADFANS.COM" sign, hoping
to grab someone's attention, which A few people noticed and gave some positive
input to. As I entered, they took them and threw them away though .
The show started out with Tom Morrelo's mommy speaking into the mic (didn't
see that one coming lol) and she introduced her son, Tom. Tom gave a speech and
started his list of United States rebel-related songs. After he finished
playing, we waited a gruesome 45 minutes for Serj to appear. as I had
guessed, they started off with The Unthinking Majority (which I must add, is
MUCH better live). The entire show included:
1.) The Unthinking Majority
2.) Empty Walls
3.) Feed Us
4.) Lie, Lie, Lie
5.) Saving Us
6.) Baby
7.) Sky Is Over
8.) Praise The Lord And Pass The Ammunition
9.) Charades (Rock Version)
10.) Holiday in Cambodia (Dead Kennedys Cover)
11.) Honking Antelope
12.) Beethoven's Cunt
Encore:
13.) Elect The Dead
At the end of the show Serj said "No matter how much I love my flag, I don't
believe in flags. No matter how much I love my country. We shouldn't have
countries. We shouldn't have borders."
Side Notes:
- The merch is pretty damn expensive. $30 for a t shirt, $25 for a hat, $ 55
for a sweater, but the poster comes free with a purchase.
- Serj has 6 men band members. Serj was naming them as they were playing so
it was pretty hard to hear.
- Tom Morrelo's setlist:
1.) One Man Revolution
2.) Union Song
3.) King Of Hell (new song!)
4.) The Road I Must Travel
5.) Flesh Shapes The Day
6.) Guerrilla Radio (Acoustic Rage Against The Machine Cover)
7.) This Land Is My Land ( Woody Guthrie Cover)
- Serj had some really hilarious moments. I think after Unthinking Majority
he said "We're the Flying Cunts of Chaos" as the unofficial/joking band name.
Then before 'Feeding Us' he started to say "do you see her over there" really
seriously "she's over there and saying 'what the fuck are you guys doing!?' "
*song starts* haha. And before "Baby" he was like "the song came into me in a
dream" *the hat hits his guitar* "and its not called hat" or something like
that..

Conrats on getting to see him first! I don't think he's coming anywhere near me yet. T-shirts are about $30 at any concert nowadays, so I don't think he was excessively priced, that's just the going rate. Most concerts, a hoody is about $75. A girl I work with wanted one at a TOOL show. Were they allowing cameras, or are those sneaky pics? I know one of the guys from Slow Motion Reign (Erwin) is in his band. He is a myspace friend of mine. It sucks when they take away your 'media'! I had a license plate that said SHUGGAH at the LA SOul's show 2005. I wanted to hold it up so that friends from online would know who I was, but they wouldn't let it past the gates! Not only did I get to contact unfamiliar faces, I was out a license plate from my car!! I stashed it in a bush, but they threw it away. Great review & pics, thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a great night. I don't think I'll be able to wait for '08, but I must x( xP ""No matter how much I love my flag, I don't believe in flags. No matter how much I love my country. We shouldn't have countries. We shouldn't have borders." I'm in love with that =) It's weird seeing a picture of him singing and knowing he's not singing SOAD though :/

I was at this show last night and it was AMAZING!!!!! My friends and I drove 300 miles to see the opening night of the tour, and all I can say is it was more than worth it. For those who missed the concert there are some short clips on youtube, and I am expecting more; I saw a lot of people recording. btw sodomizer, I was one of the people who complemented your sign.
